Waynesboro is a small town in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. Waynesboro is the oldest continuously inhabited community in Luzerne County and the second oldest incorporated town in Pennsylvania (founded 1784). It is located on the Susquehanna River. The first Europeans to visit Waynesboro were Frenchmen who passed through the area on their way to encounter the Lenape Native Americans at Wyoming Valley. In 1675, Englishman Captain John Smith discovered what he thought was an Indian village near where Waynesboro now stands. He named it "Wyoming" after his discoveries of that location by landing party on July 20, 1675. The first European settler in Waynesboro was Nicholas Wright, who arrived about 1800 and built a cabin on what is now Second Street. By 1822, most of present-day Waynesboro had been developed as part of a large railroad depot called "the Erie", which served as a transportation hub for goods traffic between Reading and Pittsburgh. In 1851, Fayette Township was established within Luzerne County and became known as "Fayette Township No. 2". On February 14th of that year, residents of Waynesboro voted to incorporate into Fayette Township instead of paying taxes to Allegheny County which then led to an argument between township officials over how much property they should annex from Allegheny County when its boundaries changed in 1868 (though this annexation never happened). In 1907, there were only 204 people living in Waynesboro; by 1928 there were 1,039 residents here and it has remained relatively stable since then with around 100 residents per square mile (approximately 3/4 acre) today according to 2010 Census estimates . The post office at Waynesboro was discontinued on November 15th 1934 due to low mail volume; however ZIP codes provided for service until 1965 under US Post Office Districts program which continued until 1993 when all ZIP codes were discontinued。 Postal service returns are available from 1865-1993 courtesy of PA Historical Society Archives & Records Department

After the war ended,the town declined until it regained its former importance as a commercial and cultural center in the early 21st century.
Waynesboro is a census-designated place (CDP) in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. The area around Waynesboro was originally part of Huntingdon Township. It became its own CDP on July 1, 1997.
