Waynesboro, Pennsylvania is a small town located in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania. The population was 5,567 at the 2010 census. It is the borough seat of Waynesboro Borough and the economic center for Waynesboro Township. In 1892, rifle manufacturer Samuel Colt began making revolvers there and renamed it "Murdock's Armory." After World War I, demand for firearms increased as gun control laws were tightened in many countries. Colt produced thousands of pistols in America during this time, but also started producing rifles. The company eventually merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1934. Today, Remington Arms Corporation produces shotguns and other firearms there.

Waynesboro is a town in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,934 at the 2010 census. Waynesboro was founded in 1795 by Captain John Waynes and his wife Martha as a small post station on the Susquehanna River. In 1837, it became the county seat of Fayette County. The first settler in Waynesboro was Captain John Waynes himself. He and his wife Martha arrived from England in 1795 and homesteaded along the Susquehanna River. They built their first cabin on what is now Main Street in 1796. Captain John's death left his widow with three children to care for and start a new life. With help from her neighbors, they soon erected additional cabins and began trading goods with the surrounding villages on the Susquehanna River. Captain John's grandson Benjamin Waynes purchased land east of present-day Waynesboro in 1824 and laid out what is now Route 209 on it. By 1830, he had developed two plantations known as "Wayne" (now part of Reading) Plantation and "Fenton" Plantation near where central Streets crosses routes 80 (now Market Street) and 141 (now US 19). One of Benjamins daughters married a Revolutionary War veteran named Nicholas Knapp who donated land to buildKnappowneres School which served students until 1906 when it reopened as Westmoreland Elementary School; this school also served as one of twoelementary schools for waynesboro after Bridgeport Township closed its public schools due to lack of funding In 1839, Captain John's son-in-law James Muhlenberg donated 640 acres (256 hectares) including present day Waynesboro to form Adams Township which became part of Fayette County effective February 14th, 1840 Wayne Township continued expanding until it included all or parts of seventeen other townships by 1860: Bridgeport Township boundaries were changed to take effect January 1st that year when Adams took over operations from Hartwick Borough; Clinton township merged into Wayne upon its creation; Lancaster township absorbed portions of Fordhamtown before becoming an independent borough July 10th 1860; Lawrenceville municipality incorporated November 15th 1860 followed by Chambersburg November 29th 1860 making it one large municipality encompassing all but eight townships within Fayette County All but two municipalities within Wayne Township were annexed into Clinton Township on January 1st 1861 following an act by the Pennsylvania General Assembly mirroring Philadelphia's Municipal Consolidation Act passed December 15th 1890 among several other significant changes duringthe late 19th century throughout western Pennsylvania resulting from industrialization brought about by railroads . All but six precincts within Clinton township were annexed into Lancaster township effective February 1st 1863 . On October 26 1862 Union General Ambrose Burnside ordered Major General Alfred Terry’s Third Corps under LtGen William Taney march through WAYNESBORO towards Harrisburg via Center Line Road confiscating food supplies stored at various points along route while en route to Murrysville - this event is generally considered the beginning not only but also the formal end American Civil War . This action effectively ended any hopes many eastern Pennsylvanians may have had for ending slavery forever On October 91818 Union Genl Abracadabra Kearny marched through WAYNESBORO residents organized themselves into groups & met at Greenmount Cemetery site seeking protection as troops passed through town resulted in skirmish that left 5 men dead & 20 wounded

Waynesboro is one of the oldest towns in Susquehanna County and has been settled since 1784. The first settler in what is now Waynesboro was James Hargrave, who arrived in 1784. For many years, Waynesboro was part of Westmoreland Township which included present-day Scranton and Wilkes-Barre. In 1814, however, the township was created as an independent borough under the jurisdiction of Scranton. By 1830, however, it had become clear that control of Waynesboro would be handily won by either Pennsylvanian Andrew Mellon or his Democratic opponent Samuel Tilden (the future Governor of New York). As a result, when Mellon became President Grover Cleveland's Secretary of Treasury on January 25th 1831 he appointed John Fenton to head up westward expansion for the new government in Washington D.C.. Fenton's efforts soon brought about changes within Pennsylvanian government and within Westmoreland Township as well; although still part of Erie County until 1849 when it became part of Butler County), by 1850 Waynesboro had gained its own post office and began to attract settlers from all overwestern Pennsylvania including those from Philadelphia and other surrounding areas. It wasn't until 1861 that Waynesboro permanently annexed into Butler County . The town's growth continued unabated during World War II; as factories were relocated to nearby Scranton or Wilkes-Barre due to shortages caused by Nazi Germany's occupation of Poland - this led to increased business opportunities for Waynesboroughers who found themselves suddenly thrust into wartime production mode. The war also saw an increase in social activity due to the wealth generated from running businesses during peacetime; such events include dances at nightclubs frequented by military personnel stationed around town while their families gathered outside for breakfast next morning; waynefestivals which featured local bands playing outdoors while residents participated in games such as cornhole or quoits; and car shows where vehicles were displayd on open fields adjacent to local stores before being auctioned off later that day
