West Mifflin is a town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 9,307 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from the location on the Allegheny River between Pittsburgh and Erie. The first settlement in what is now West Mifflin was made by farmers around 1790. It remained small and unimportant until 1815 when General David Forbes founded a new village on much larger land to the south of present-day West Mifflin. This village became known as Forbesburgh after General David Forbes. For many years, it was thought that this community was actually located in present-day Butler County because no other towns were named for General David Forbes in that area at that time. In 1835, however, James Hennepin built a mill on the river near modern day Mount Pleasant and renamed it West Mifflin after his home state of New York. At this time, Eastward migration had started to rapidly increase throughout western Pennsylvania and most of eastern Ohio due to religious reasons – people were moving westward to escape religious persecution back east during the 1830s and 1840s. Consequently, many Easterners assumed that all western Pennsylvanians were named "West Mifflin" because that's where their homes were located (or so they thought). Over time though, more residents from eastern Pennsylvania began moving into southwestern Ohio which then became part of Pennsylvania so "West Mifflin" gradually lost its initial significance withinPennsylvania itself. With economic development beginning to take hold throughout Western Pennsylvania during the 19th century, parts of Eastward migration resumed even as people moved away from "WestMiffin." In 1890, for example, John Fenton opened a grocery store in what is now downtown WestMiffin and soon began selling items such as groceries and coal at increased prices due to transportation costs imposed by railroads connecting Philadelphia with Pittsburgh via Altoona/Johnstown Plain. By 1910 however, Wm Kalergi’s department store had replaced Fenton’s store as our largest commercial enterprise in town which helped contribute significantly to growth over ensuing decades; indeed Kalergi remains one of our most significant historical figures today! During World War II local businesses produced materials for both military production and civilian use including gasoline tanks for trucks and naval Ordnance yards across America; many families did multiple jobs during wartime providing goods or services needed by Americans all overthe country - an experience few can truly recapture! After hostilities ended following V-E Day (1946), many families decided instead to stay put develop their businesses once again – something which continues today albeit with increased competition from online retailers etc., but definitely worth experiencing if you're ever aroundWEST MILFORD! Today's population stands at 927 citizens according to2010 Census data making it one of Butler County's smallest villages with just under 12% reliance on agriculture products still accounting for nearly 60%of total sources revenue! However while agriculture may be declining somewhat since 2000 relative thereto industrial output has continued growing markedly (+10%)!! This indicates continuing vitality within this socio economically complex community characterized by strong family values & entrepreneurial spirit!!!

West Mifflin was founded in 1795 by Captain John Armstrong and his wife, Deborah. The town was named for Captain Armstrong's home on the banks of the Monongahela River. In 1843, the town became part of the United States of America. In 1848, West Mifflin had its first schoolhouse. The first post office opened in 1861. In 1865, West Mifflin became a city and was renamed West Philadelphia afterPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania.
