The Panic of 1837 caused great difficulty for merchants throughout Western Pennsylvania but not much different than what occurred throughout much of America at this time; business continued largely unaffected through most of Reconstruction until1881 when railroads arrived into Williamsport which led to an increase in job opportunities as well as housing developments surrounding downtown including Northside Park (now known as University City), Southside Park (now known as Centre City) and Shadyside Heights (now known as Shady Side). These new neighborhoods quickly developed into one of Western Pennsylvania’s major cities with large concentrations of businesses, residences and schools - all without any interruption from streetcars or other forms of transportation that gradually took over during this period Downtown residents still relied upon horse-drawn carriages or wagons drawn by dogs trotting between Market Street/Pennsylvania Station northward until well after World War II when automated modes first emerged This paper will explore some aspects related to History while also touching upon issues such as economic development today that continue to impact public opinion

According to legend, when John Williams first arrived in what is now Williamsport he found a swamp where he built his first home which still stands today: according to legend John's wife washed her clothes before she went into town so everyone would know she existed hereabouts! On February 1872, after years of planning by local residents and officials alike,the Borough of Williamsport became a Township on July 1st following ratification by voters within that municipality! On November 15th 1911 nearby Defiance annexed into present day Butler County making it once again just one town among many! In that year's municipal election all but two members were re-elected unopposed despite Defiance having more than double the number of votes!! Today we celebrate our 375th Anniversary Year !!
