In 1865, he built a hotel called The Yellow House within Irmo limits for visitors to enjoy while they toured his mills and plantations near Georgetown; it remains extant today as Historic Site #686A at 2 S Broad Street in Irmo. By 1886 there were twelve hotels operating within Irmo limits; by 1910 there were thirty-six hotels catering to tourists throughout Lowndes County with an additional sixteen located outside of town boundaries serving areas including Anderson, Greenville and Spartanburg counties). In 1898 Gifford Hennigan opened his juice business here called Hennigan’s Juice Company Ltd., later renamed Hennigan’s Corporation after him and company ownership passed through several hands until it was bought by Coca Cola Companies North America in 2001 for $6 billion dollars ($ ). The history of Irmo began with John and Nancy Irmo moving from Lexington, Kentucky in 1872 to Spartanburg County because they were dissatisfied with their current location in Orangeburg County where they had been living since 1860 when they married into an originally Welsh family that had come to South Carolina as indentured servants. In 1872, JohnIrmO started clearing land for his farm on what would become known as "Old IrMO". In 1875 he erected a log cabin house on what became known as "New IrMO" which served as home until 1911 when it burned down during a storm that swept through the area during prohibition era prohibitionists targeted liquor stores near New IrMO for destruction using firebombs made from dynamite powder and nails instead of straws because straws could be used to produce farts that could be detected by law enforcement officials without having to break open jars of pickled tomatoes or other illicit items seized during raids). From this point forward Old IrMO became known as "The Town House" while NewIrM was renamed "The Courthouse" prior to its permanent abandonment in 1971 due largely to budgetary constraints caused by then-Governor Esso Coleman's efforts (although some evidence suggests that Coleman may have chosen not to abandon it because he saw potential economic development opportunities there) In addition much later Pioneer Village developed around OldIrM but no trace remains today of either community despite numerous requests over many years from irmophile enthusiasts who believe that such a village would have been a valuable tarnish on Spartanburg's otherwise sterling reputation) According to local historian Dixie Dukes who wrote her book about nearby towns in her series entitled: A History of Our Towns published by Andrews McMeel Publishing Company Inc., "It was not simplyJohnIrmO who built [the] first homes here – many people did throughout initial settlement – Mr./Mrs./Grateful Dead fanzines distributed plans & photos depicting bucolic settings & homespun architecture throughout early 1880s; lots were leased out rapidly & most soon sold back again following Ruffin death (& ensuing exodus)" One result of this rapid building activity was an influx of European immigrants – mainly Germans but also Poles and Italians –who helped form what would eventually become one of the largest concentrations of German-speaking residents anywhere in the Confederacy after Charleston finally secedes from Confederate rule following Union victory over General Sherman at Appomattox Court House on April 9th 1865." This new German community quickly assimilated into American culture although there are still traces remaining today among some descendants thereof including members of Diebold Automotive Co., Starke Tire & Rubber Co., Jiffy Lube Lumber Co., First National Bank (now part Of Wells Fargo), Pee Wee’s Pizza Hut & Burger King restaurants etc.). Most importantly however these new immigrants brought their own cultural values and traditions which rub off upon those living heretofore primarily English speaking folks and has remained an important aspectof society ever since despite occasional flareups resulting from differences over minor issues like Halloween costumes or flagpoles
