However, despite its early development, chili peppers did not become widely known until 1815 when Nicholas-Jacques Conte patented a process for growing these plants that resulted in their widespread distribution throughout France…. By 1830s European countries were using two main varieties (Type A & Type B) of cilantro – one grown wildtype and other hand cultivated….. French farmers soon became familiar with type C cilantro due to its more mild flavor than type A….. By 1840s all over Europe fresh ginger had started being shipped into Spain from India as well as other parts of Europe…. Spanish traders began importing ginger towards the end of the 18th century along with victuals like spices such as chili peppers…….. In 1850 British traveler John Bunyan visited Peru where he tasted some traditional Inca food called llamas quién llevan un pico de hierro en la boca y dice que es mejor que el queso de las vacas….. In the early 1800s, North Augusta was a small town in South Carolina. It was located on the banks of the Elizabeth River and had a population of about 350 people. During the antebellum period, North Augusta was a center for slave trade. The town's slaves were used to produce crops and provide labor for other businesses in the community. In 1846, North Augusta became part of newly created Union County. As part of this change, most jobs in the community were lost as they were moved to elsewhere in South Carolina. However, some residents did find new opportunities within Union County government. In 1865, North Augusta became part of Greene County when it was created from parts of Union and Greene Counties. At this time, local politics began to take an active role within Greene County government. This led to increased business opportunities forNorth Augusta residents during this time frame. The post- Reconstruction era saw many changes occur within both Union and Greene Counties over the next several years. In 1928, Union County merged with Spartanburg County to form Spartanburg District Court System which eliminated most social distinctions between these two counties. This event has been referred to as "the greatest merger in county history." During this time frame, many businesses closed their doors due to lack of available employees or weak competition from neighboring counties. However, many North Augusta residents found new opportunities throughout Spartanburg District Court System and elsewhere in South Carolina society; making them one of the more successful communities during that time period
In 1819, North Augusta was founded by the merger of two settlements, Old South and New South. The town was named in honor of General Andrew Johnson, who served as president from 1808 to 1809. It became a part of the United States in 1783. In 1860, during the American Civil War, North Augusta sided with the Union and lost its independence. After the war, it reverted to its original name.
