The town of Simpsonville, located in Union County, South Carolina was founded in 1828. The town was named for General James J. Simpson and his wife, Martha C. Simpson. The first settler in Simpsonville was Amos G. Wright, who arrived in 1829. In 1831, the town had a population of thirty-five people and it grew to seventy-five by 1830. By 1840, the population had increased to one hundred and fifty people and by 1850, the population had reached two hundred and fifty-six people. The growth of Simpsonville was due to its location on the Kanawha River and its access to transportation including a ferry that transported goods between the river and the town. In 1853, a post office was established in Simpsonville and it continued to be operative until 1861 when it was discontinued due to lack of mail traffic. In 1865, an academy for girls was built in Simpsonville which operated until 1895. On September 10th of that year, Confederate General Robert Ewell visited Simpsonville while on his way northward after crossing the Potomac River at Harpers Ferry Kentucky with his army during the Battle of Antietam Creek where he destroyed many roadsides along his march southward into Virginia seeking supplies for his army before finally reaching Yorktown Peninsula). After visiting Simpsonville he ordered Major General Jubal Early's cavalry unit (the 2nd Cavalry) under Lieutenant Colonel William Troupemberg eastward across Sharpsburg Valley towards Gettysburg Cemetery looking for enemy skirmishers hidden among trees near Cemetery Ridge where they attacked without result inflicting serious casualties upon their opponents despite severe losses upon themselves). On October 17th General Early's cavalry unit reported finding no hostile activity within sight or hearing from Cemetery Ridge leading him concluding that there were not any significant Confederates remaining in Maryland or Virginia other than those scattered around Sharpsburg Valley preventing them from attacking Early's forces as planned). It should be noted that General Ewell never entered Maryland proper but instead crossed over into Virginia passing through Pennsylvania rather than going via Harper's Ferry as is generally believed which would have allowed him to attack more directly against Confederate supply lines closer to home

In 1827, General William H.Simpson built his headquarters here to lead military campaigns against Cherokee Indians. When he died in 1842, his son John took over the leadership of the army general’s family and rebuilt Simpsonville into one of the most important towns in southwest South Carolina. He developed this region into one of great cotton plantations where white men and black women worked together until after World War II. John Simpson’s legacy continues through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even down to today’s residents of Simpsonville who are descended from him through both bloodlines and marriage alliances dating back centuries! Our ancestors have enriched our town by their contributions to society – many having made significant contributions to education, politics or business within our community or statewide level; some being honored with state awards like Governor Fannin Award for Lifetime Achievement; numerous recipients of city or county honors like Achievable Neighborhood Award from City Councilmember Gayle King; countless businesses & organizations established based upon their success stories within our community; etc.; all while proudly keeping alive some aspects of traditional Southern culture such as raising chickens on your front porch!!!
Simpsonville was founded in 1795 by Nicholas Simpson and his brother John. The Simpsons built a log cabin on the present site of the town, which they called "The Cabin." The first post office in Simpsonville was established in 1815. In 1817, the town incorporated and its first mayor was James A. Beckham.
