However, it later emerged from bankruptcy with help from the state government and has since been on an upswing since then experiencing modest albeit steady growth thanks to advances within its economy along with much needed investment from outside sources
Mitchell was established in 1876 as a town in Donnell County, South Dakota. The population of Mitchell grew to over 2,000 by 1907. In 1916, the town was renamed Sioux City after the Sioux Tribe's reservation in South Dakota.
