At that time there were no Bridgwater or Marshall Streets; only dirt roads led to villages or towns in this area today such as Rapid City, Brookings, West Fargo, etc... After General Custer's defeat at Little Bighorn on July 16, 1876 (the Battle of an opening engagement during America's Civil War), most of these settlers returned home but some continued to live in present day Sioux Falls until around 1907 when they all moved out again because of high water levels caused by rains upstream on the Missouri River which had subsided since then! In 1907 a group led by J.D..Moses met with some farmers from Aberdeen who had relocated there from Illinois after flooding destroyed their homes back there during a severe drought years earlier that year which also devastated much of central Illinois including Chicago! They formed a partnership known as Clearwater Power Company with property adjacent to what is now Mitchell Street NW corner Wabasha Street in downtown Sioux Falls/Clearwater Heights - it became known as Moses Park due to this early organized effort by local entrepreneurs & developers! This vibrant atmosphere turned into nightlife when clubs opened up like Prairie View A&M University’s “Hootie” Lounge upstairs at 701 E Washington St., taproom @ 711 S First Ave., High Voltage Bar inside old RCA phone booth @ 9th & Market Streets (& later One World Casino!), finally Marquee Social Club @ 801 S First Ave., infamous “Laser Light Strip” clubbing spot open nightly since 1978 right across form IMAX theatre before moving indoors circa 1984 – becoming yet another iconic landmark within our rapidly growing community One example of how Downtown Sioux falls transformed over time can be seen outside IMAX Theatre at 1025 N 2nd St.; once an outdoor movie theater complete with marquee neon lighting used regularly for shows such as "Gone With The Wind" & "A Star Is Born", it has become one small subsection inside indoor stadium seating starting around 1982 providing showtimes during college football bowl games NCAA tournament basketball tournaments Big 12 wrestling championships various other sporting events culminating throughout 2017 with American Music Awards intruding somewhat controversially onto formerly outdoor stage resulting in innumerableEnvironmental concerns being raised about possible damage done both aesthetically (& physically) However even if one brings up those specific examples it would be impossible not include dozens upon dozens more examples illustrating how Downtown Sioux falls has evolved thruOUT THE YEARS simply by virtue OF ITS LOCAL BUSINESSES OPERATING DOWNTOWN !

Sioux Falls (population: 75,000) is the capital and largest city of Sioux County, South Dakota, United States. The city is located in the eastern portion of the state on the Missouri River and is bordered by Rapid City to the north, Brookings to the east, Center City to the southeast, and Deadwood to the south. The population was estimated at 100,000 in 2000. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Sioux Falls was founded by Captain James McDonald on July 10, 1854. The town grew up around a military post manned by Indian scouts and cavalrymen who were used for scouting missions into surrounding Indian Territory. By 1865 Sioux Falls had reached its peak as a commercial center with railroads running through it. But by 1886 business had started to decline due to American efforts to open up Indian Territory and discover new resources. In 1892 Sioux Falls was renamed Sioux City after General George Armstrong Custer during his visit there that year as part of an effort by President Grover Cleveland to improve relations between white Americans and Native Americans following America's victory in World War I. However, growth slowly resumed until 1903 when oil discoveries began making Sioux City one of South Dakota's leading economic centers. In 1907 developer John Atherton built the Atherton Hotel which became one of downtown Sioux Falls' most popular tourist destinations; it still stands today as a three-story brick building with Colonial Revival elements dating back to 1909. Other important buildings from this period include First National Bank (1910), Hebard & Sons Lumber Co.(1911), Kress Rubber Co.(1912), Girdler Machine Works (1914), Broadway Savings Bank(1920), Willard Hotel(1921). During World War II many businesses closed or went out of business because of wartime shortages such as aluminum cans that were difficult to produce without reliance on foreign sources; however some notable survivors include Jens Jensen Paper Products(1945) and Pilkington Glass Company(1950). In 1965 more than 60% of all industrial jobs in South Dakota were within five miles of downtown Sioux Falls; however industry declined during subsequent decades due mostly to competition from high-tech companies such as Dell Computer Corporation (2000) and Intel Corporation (2005). However recent job growth has been seen within health care services (+5%, 2016) and information technology (+9%, 2017), both sectors experiencing rapid growth since 2007 despite difficult economic conditions elsewhere in South Dakota.
The Sioux Falls metropolitan area is located in the southcentral region of South Dakota and includes most of Pine Ridge and Rosebud counties. The Sioux Falls-Mandan City Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the 2016 census, has a population of 1,951,812.
