There have been many shootings in Brentwood, Tennessee over the years. One of the most recent was on November 10, 2018 when a gunman opened fire at a local bar. A fight had started between two groups and one of the gunmen began shooting. He then ran into a nearby store and continued shooting until he killed himself. There have also been shootings at other bars in Brentwood over the years, but this is the only one that has resulted in death.
The sheriff's department says that it has received no reports of anyone being shot in Brentwood since 1999, when there were just three shootings total. It seems like this area is relatively safe for gun ownership and there haven't been any incidents where someone was seriously injured or even killed with a weapon since then.
Gun safety is something that people in Brentwood are definitely concerned about. There is talk of having more loudly-made firearms available so that people can hear if someone is coming around the corner or trying to get away cleanly (though it's not clear if this will actually happen). The sheriff's office suggests always keeping your firearm locked up when not in use and never carrying anything around that you wouldn't want to lose or could be used as an opportunity to grab your weapon should something occur.
