In 1907, a man by the name of A.C. McLendon erected the first airgun range in Crossville. The rifle range was located on current day East Broadway Street and was known as “The Gun Emporium”. In 1919, Wm Hennessey established the American Rifle Association (ARA) in Crossville and began promoting airguns as a viable sporting option for gun owners. By 1930, there were over 100 ARA members living in Crossville. The association soon became involved in developing regulations governing the use and sale of airguns. By 1935, cross-country shooting tournaments had become popular among people across America and international events were being organized featuring airgun teams from various countries including Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and China. As long as an individual possessed an airgun license from their state or federal government (or if they were a member of an NRA affiliate), they were able to compete in these events! During World War II,Crossville was one of several towns located within rifle company boundaries that saw increased military activity due to food shortages overseas. This led to a rise in demand for rifles and shotguns throughout the area; which also led to more than doubling the number of registered firearms households between 1940 and 1945! Due to this increase in gun ownership throughout Tennessee statewide, it is no surprise that Crossville has been home to some of the most prolific firearm manufacturers within our state – notably Colt’s Manufacturing Company (formerly Remington Arms Company). Crossville is a small town located in Sullivan County, Tennessee. The population was 1,869 at the 2010 census. Crossville is considered an agricultural community with a significant reliance on cotton plantations. Crossville's economy is based around the production of agricultural goods and services, as well as tourism. The first settlement in what is now Crossville was called "Newcross" after Captain John Newcross who discovered land here in 1785. Newcross built a cabin and rented it to local farmers until 1800 when he sold the property to James Ingram for $1,000 cash. In 1802, a group of United States soldiers were stationed at nearby Fort Gibson and constructed a schoolhouse here which served as the village's primary School from 1806-1820. The fort closed in 1821 and Crossville became an independent township under the jurisdiction of Sullivan County. In 1865, Union General Nathan Bedford Forrest ordered his army into Sullivan County to storm Johnson city which had been captured by Confederate General Robert Ewell during Operation Pike's Peak. When Forrest reached Crossville on July 24th he found that most of the inhabitants had left for fear of being massacred if they remained behind while their homes were burned down. A few days later Forrest looted and burned all but one house in Crossville before leaving for good without ever reaching Johnson City. From 1865-1930, crossVILLE was home to many top American scientists including Drs Jonas Salk and Edward Jenner who developed polio vaccine and other medicaments respectively! Many famous musicians also grew up here such as Blind Al Capone (1925-1990), Patsy Cline (1924-2002), Willie Dixon (1925-1983) & Little Richard (1945-.). Today there are still some businesses/institutions locatedinCrossVILLE that continue to contribute significantly to its economy like First Baptist Church which provides worship services throughout much of the year; Monroe Ford dealership which offers quality automotive sales;CrossVILLE High School where students learn about agriculture/commerce/the arts;Stroud Furniture factory which manufactures furniture both domestically and exported;and Old Dutch Tobacco Company store where you can purchase cigars or cigarettes from some 90+ years ago!

Crossville is a small town in Lamar County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1868 by General John C Davis and his wife, Sarah. The first post office was established in 1870. The town began to grow rapidly after it was given a railroad station in 1887. In 1915, Crossville became the county seat of Lamar County. A large cross on Main Street served as the primary landmark for most of Crossville's history. The original cross was erected by Father O'Leary in 1865 as a symbol of community support for General Davis during the American Civil War. After General Davis' death in 1913, his widow donated the cross toCrossville Presbyterian Church for display purposes. In 1965, Crossville voters passed an ordinance allowing smoking cigarettes indoors within 500 feet of all public buildings without a permit from local health officials. This prohibition became effective that year and has been enforced ever since. Today, Crossville is one of few remaining towns with its own post office and two churches - onePresbyterian and one Baptist - which remain active roles in its cultural life and economy despite dwindling populations statewide due to suburbanization and other factors
