He called them "Cummings' Bifocals."Around 1860, two men named James Aiken and George Stephenson developed the idea of creating a telescope using binoculars as its optics. These telescopes would be used to view things like stars and planets! In 1876, John Witherspoon designed the first practicalbinocular! This device was called the Witherspoon-Kirchhoff Binocular and it was made out of brass and wood. It had four lenses that could be adjusted to get the best view!In 1912, another man named Harry Weitzel designed a new type ofbinocular known as an "Weitzel prism." This device consisted of three lens elements that were put together so that they formed a prismatic image!This invention helped people see things much further away than ever before! Between 1912 and 1916, there were over 20 different typesof binoculars invented! Some of these include:the Kite-Tubes (1912), which were used to view birds in flight;the Stromberg-Hahn Tube (1914), which was used to view pictures at high magnification;andthe Byers-O’Keefe Tube (1920), which was used to watch movies on television!In 1941, World War II began. As part of this war, many Americans died from being captured by Nazi forces or from being injured in battle. As a result, many inventors didn't get their inventions patented because they knew they would not be available for use during peace time. However, some did receive patents for their inventions:The Kite-Tubeswerepatented on July 16th 1944;the Stromberg-Hahn Tubewaspatented on October 5th 1942;andthe Byers-O’Keefe Tubewas patented on December 8th 1921!!!All these inventions helped make binoculars one of the most popular items in America during World War II! Dyersburg is a town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 9,055 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Hardin County. The first settlement in what is now Dyersburg occurred in 1811 when James Robertson and his brother settler Alexander arrived on horseback from Kentucky. They named their new community "Harrisonville." A post office was established in Harrisonville in 1816, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1819, John Ransom founded a small cotton plantation north of Harrisonville called Ransom's Creek. The original home of Ransom & Co., a tannery and packing house which still stands today at 309 Main Street (now part of the Dyersburg State Fairgrounds), still bears evidence that it once housed slaves during its time as an African American plantation: One large barrel of molasses remains inside the building to this day! A second cotton plantation called Sycamore was founded by Isaac Hensley around 1830 just south of where Ransom's creek now flows into Canisteel Creek. This plantation continued to be operated until it ceased operations around 1840 due to overproduction by Samuel Hensley. In 1829, a group of businessmen led by Jesse Henderson formed the Nashville and Chattanooga Railroad to bring goods and people between Nashville and Chattanooga through Hardin County. The town started receiving mail from Nashville only six months after it had been authorized under this new railroad company name! In 1830, local planters met at the old courthouse square to organize themselves into two distinct groups – one group led by Henderson wanted their own town hall built while another group preferred to keep using the existing courthouse for meetings purposes only! As things turned out though, both communities eventually merged into one larger community known today as Dyersburg! On October 1st 1870 Union troops burned down Knox’s store building northeast of downtown Dyersburg during Confederate military occupation during General Robert Ewell’s campaign against General Ulysses S Grant’s army at Murfreesboro Passage (later renamed Fort Donelson). At least 20 stores were destroyed with loss of life including most notably Knox’s brick store located on High Street across from what is now UTEP football stadium; Knox himself escaped injury or damage however his store building did burn down completely!
