The community was founded in 1868 by Methodists from nearby Chattanooga. The first post office in East Ridge was established in 1870. In 1902, the community became a station on the Memphis and Nashville Railroad. The last train to call at East Ridge Station stopped in 1966. In 1895, East Ridge Male Seminary opened its doors to students from surrounding counties and townships. The school closed in 1959 but continued to be used as a church until it burned down in 1978. East Ridge has two churches: First Baptist Church and Methodist Episcopal Church. The main street which runs through the center of town is named after Rev James Aitken who served as pastor of First Baptist from 1915-1978 and then later as pastor of Methodist Episcopal Church from 1951-1966. The Aitken Chapel still stands today and is used for services every Sunday morning since it reopened following construction of a new building which replaced the old one during that period of time A local high school which operated from 1951 until 1966 was called Eastridge High School; however, becauseEastridge had no connection with any other high schools within or outside of Chattanooga, this name could not be registered with the US government so it eventually reverted back to its original name - Eastridge High School

East Ridge was founded in 1871 by James Caird and his brother-in-law J.D. White as a community on the banks of the Cumberland River for Scottish immigrants who had come to work on the railroad. The name "East Ridge" was given to the ridge that runs along the river's edge. The first post office in East Ridge was established in 1877 and operated until it closed in 1911. In 1907, East Ridge became an incorporated village with a government consisting of a mayor and six trustees. At that time, it had 1 store and 25 residents. In 1912, Eastridge became one of two towns within Donelson County when it merged with Gallatin to form what is now Nashville Township. In 1920, during World War II, Eastridge began manufacturing munitions for war production at its plant on Airport Boulevard. The plant produced artillery projectiles such as uranium rounds and mortar shells before being shut down in 1970 due to air pollution problems caused by emissions from nearby factories while still active; however, parts were salvaged and continue to be manufactured today by a company based out of Blue Grass Junction near Lexingtonville, Kentucky under license from Eastridge Arsenal Corp., which reopened in 2006 after years of renovation including new construction across portions of its original footprint Many people who live around East Ridge remember their childhood summers spent fishing or swimming at Big riverbottom just outside town limits where there were swimsuits made from white cotton fiber known as "doodle clothes." There are also several places around town where you can find natural gas wells dating back to 1906 (the east side well closest to town has been drilled since 1959).
