Many residents left for lack of food, water, or munitions available to them within range of enemy forcesselves north of Chattanooga; however, many returned eventually due to new opportunities for livelihood provided by Reconstruction policies in America following the war. By 1920, only a few remain in Farragut today while most have either moved away or passed away since that time. John Farragut was born on March 12th, 1794 near present day Clarksville, TN., one year after his father’s death from fever contracted while serving with distinction at Fort Donelson against General Andrew Johnson’s forces durinig thelibelous Defeat at Vicksburg (March 4th). After attending Drury Academy in Nashville he entered law school but did not complete degree because he was called into military service during American Revolution (1775-1783) and served first as Ensign under Captain Nathan Bedford Forrest before becoming Lieutenant Colonel commanding militia cavalry company West Tennessee Brigade (January 1st 1815–April 3rd 1816). He would be promoted Major General during Creek War fought between Cherokee Nation/ Southern Alabama & USArmy (February 28th 1814 – April 6th 1814) serving along side James Kenedy & Stephen Austin before returning home early due to illness whereupon remaining unblemished until diagnosed with yellow fever on October 14th 1840 which led him immediately traveling southward via Mobile Bay Ohio River delta where he attended inauguration ceremonies January 8th unsuccessfully seeking treatment at Philadelphia Navy Yard before finally completing voyage back east aboard USS Constitution November 10th disembarking New Orleans January 21st 1800 thereby becoming first person ever admitted into United States Medical College December 5th 1800 thence receiving license to practice medicine May 7eenth 1801 having accomplished this public service within three months rather than waiting for authorization from Senate which arrived six weeks later on December 13th 1800 upon being transmitted through Secretary Pickering

The family returned to Tennessee in 1809 after Lydiasnia's brother resigned from service due to illness; they settled near Nashville but continued traveling so that their children could attend schools throughout the state. On March 12, 1830, Lydia gave birth to their only child - son William Hancey Farragut Jr., who would become one of America's most successful businessmen and philanthropists
