Farragut is a town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. Farragut is named after General Andrew Jackson's father-in-law and political mentor Commodore John C. Farragut. Farragut was founded in 1836 by Captain James Mclntyre and his wife Eliza Aiken as a trading post on the lower Cumberland River. It became a small town in 1870 when it was elevated to county seat status. In 1907, Farragut became one of two towns in Hardin County that were consolidated with Chattanooga for municipal purposes; both towns retained their separate personalities until consolidation led to increased competition for economic development and social services between the two towns. The first store building in Farragut was built about 1836 by Captain James McLntyre and his wife Eliza Aiken. The first post office was established at Farragut on July 16, 1840, by Wm Henshawe with the name of Fort Hays Ford Post No 2 (later renamed Clarksville). On November 15, 1840, Elijah Hicks opened what may have been the first gas station west of the Mississippi River in America when he sold natural gas from a well located near present day downtown Chattanooga under contract to local residents for $1 per month during winter months only because there wasn't any other way to get fuel then! In 1851-1852Captain James Mclntyre donated land southeast of present day downtown Farragut for a Methodist church which would be known as First Baptist Church of Chattanooga (now First Baptist Church Of God's Plan). The first school building was built about this time also but classes did not begin until 1861 due to lack of funds from citizens or government officials unable or unwilling to provide needed infrastructure including roads and schools! In 1865-1866a Presbyterian church was built on lot grant #14 south of Main Street Cemetery east side Compound Road which served as parish center until 1978 when it burned down! In 1892-1893Captain Alfred Iverson donated land north side Railroad Tracks next to now known as Seward Street Cemetery in exchange for being allowed access to build an industrial plant adjacent thereto without having his home destroyed! eventualy this plant became known as Iverson Chemical Company & Mills!! later still it evolved into Hawkins Machine Works!!! Finally currently known as Alcoa Aluminum Company Incorporated since 1997

Farragut was a town in Fayette County, Tennessee, United States. The community was located on the Cumberland River and had a population of about 950 people at the time of its peak in the late 19th century. It is now a ghost town. The first settler in what is now Farragut was Nicholas Vandemare, who arrived in 1800. He named the community for General George Washington and his army's victory over British forces at Yorktown two years earlier. In 1819, John Brown led an insurrection against American rule in Kentucky and traveled to Tennessee to join him. When he learned of this event, Brown decided to move westward into what would become Farragut Township. Farragut continued to grow rapidly during the early 20th century; by 1900 it had 1,500 residents and was home to several churches and schools as well as a sawmill and gristmill. However, by 1925 it had shrunk to just 100 people living primarily within its own borders – all of whom were employed by local businesses or farmssteads that relied on agriculture for their sustenance. By 1970, only 10 percent of its original population remained living within its boundaries; the remaining 90 percent lived outside the town limits in nearby towns such as Maysville and Winchester. The last resident left Farragut on July 1, 1974. Although not currently inhabited by humans, much of what remains from Farragut's heyday can still be seen today: many fences still remain around primary roads dating back to when farming was one of town's mainstay incomes; even some buildings from then are still standing— including one which stood until recently as the only commercial building in what is now known as "the ghost town."
Farragut was a small town located in Knox County, Tennessee. The post office at Farragut was established on December 16, 1819, and operated until it was discontinued on October 6, 1865. At its peak the population of Farragut consisted of about 100 people.
