Farragut is a small town in Pulaski County, Tennessee. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. Farragut is located on the Cumberland River and shares borders with Crossville to the east, Chattanooga to the north, Bear Creek to the northwest, and Decatur to the south. The first settler in what is now Farragut Township was John Sevier. He founded a cabin in 1796 and named it Sevierstown after himself. In 1803, Alexander Henderson purchased 2,000 acres of land from Sevier for $100 cash. Henderson named his new settlement Hernando after General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna who had defeated Spanish forces at Buena Vista Creek in 1802. The name of Farragut came about as a result of Captain William Cate's petition for land grants that were finally approved by Congress on July 9th, 1812. When Nashville was founded in 1796 by General James Robertson as an eastern outpost of Nashville-by-the-Sea (later called Murfreesboro), its first settlers were Scots-Irishmen known as "Farrerags". They arrived by boat from Dublin and built their first home on what is now Cooks Ferry Road just outside present day Farragut township limits. Over time they acquired other properties until they had all but surrounded what became downtown today. In 1800 John Sevier also sold 800 acres around present day downtown Farragut to Samuel Mosely for $200 cash which he used initially for raising corn and cattle.. Eventually Mosely developed one of downtown's most important businesses which later became attorney general Eli Whitney's law office complex on Broadwalk Avenue between Gaylord Street and Second Street (now Third Street). From this location Whitney could monitor much of western Tennessee during this time period because he resided directly opposite Capitol Hill in Washington Dc.. In addition to his law office building Whitney also operated various other businesses including a gristmill on Green Bank Lake nearpresent day Lookout Mountain Airport; a saw mill on Covey Mill Dam across Covey Mill Creek from Lookout Mountain Airport; two blacksmiths shops; three farmers' stores - one open October through May; four shoe stores - spring through fall; five hotel rooms - not open November thru March due to lack of business since property lines moved westward shortly thereafter (these early hotels are still extant today); six cotton ginners - busy operation going back into the 1800s! It should be noted that throughout these years there were no schools or hospitals within city limits so residents educated their children themselves when possible via reading materials or traveling out west where opportunities awaited them such as law school or medical residency training... This community self reliance wasBeginning its end however when James Robertson offered Lots 5 & 6 along Green Bank Lake towards Sullivan’s Landing – lots that would become our core retail area today – bringing more people into town center thereby stimulating commercial enterprise… However despite this growth checkerboard pattern existing Downtown until Federal troops burned down much of it during World War II we have never seen anything like it before….. Most recently with construction beginning last year along First Street just east of Main Street{today’s Broadway} all types/kinds/ Retailers/Restaurants etc have begun moving into old brick buildings surrounding main square which has given us our current look and feel………. Nowhere has this redevelopment been more evident than near First street intersection where several large restaurant COMPLETELY occupy whole block giving us Revolutionary new shopping experience !!

Farragut was a town in Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 551 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Nashville metropolitan area. The Farragut community was founded by General Andrew Jackson on October 12, 1802 as a small post on the Cumberland River. When Tennessee became an American state in 1796, Farragut became part of the new state and it continued to be known as Farragut until 1892 when it changed its name to Nashville. In 1907, General George Custer's regiment stopped at Farragut on their way from Kentucky to Missouri during the Battle of Greasy Ridge and spent several days there before continuing their march. In 1906, Farragut had three churches: First Presbyterian (now Baptist), Second Presbyterian (now Methodist), and Third Methodist (Now African American). The first two were replaced in 1915 by one building each that became homes for the towns' respective racial groups: black and white. The third church served as a social center for both races until it burned down in 1951. Farragut also had a school which opened in 1850 and closed in 1958; two stores opened in 1903-1904; one hotel operated from 1905-1910 until it caught fire; two businesses built c1900; one store built between 1911-1920; four residences built between 1916-1920s (all are now gone); one farmstead erected around 1926 and destroyed by fire later that year; and finally, an ice cream factory which opened 1945-1946 but closed after about five years due to lack of customers or competition from other food producers within the city limits of Nashville. All these businesses may have been ancestors of current institutions such as Sears Roebuck & Co., FedEx Corp., Nissan North America Inc., Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Lowe's Companies Incorporated/Lowe's Home Depot plc._ Today only general store still open at 1304 Broadway Ave N #1
Farragut was founded by James Farragut in 1797. It became a city in 1853 and was the seat of government for the counties that made up the Nashville area from 1857 to 1901. In 1861, Farragut was destroyed by a tornado and never rebuilt.
