In fact, much of this success can be attributed to two key figures: Willis Waddell and Sam Hagan. Willis Waddell was an experienced manufacturer and distributor who helped lead Rifle Scope Industryto its current level of popularity; while Sam Hagan is considered to be one of the fathers of modern rifleScope design – he developed both illuminated red dot sights (which replaced traditional iron sights) as well as reticle turrets for use with military rifles during World War II. Farragut was a small town in Carter County, Tennessee, at the junction of the National Road and the Cumberland Trail. The first rifle scopes were made there in 1849 by George W. Stephenson and Company. In 1870, Farragut became the home of Mississippi Rifle and Shotgun Company No. 1, one of the earliest rifle companies organized in America. The company was founded to manufacture rifles for American military forces in Spain during the Mexican-American War.
In 1814, U.S. Commodore James Farragut led an expedition against the Spanish in Cuba and during his three years of operations in that region, he became one of America’s most celebrated military leaders. His actions at Santiago de Cuba lead to America’s first successful siege of a Spanish fortress and in 1815 he led a naval assault on Havana harbor which resulted in the capture of that city by American forces. Farragut was also instrumental in leading the great bombardment of Mexico City in 1846, achieving victory over Mexican forces while sparing Veracruz, one of Mexico’s largest ports. Farragut is considered one of the greatest naval commanders this country has ever produced and his legacy will live on for many years to come. He was born near present-day Chattanooga, Tennessee on October 14th, 1795. Commodore James Farragut joined the Navy at age 19 and began serving under Captain John Rodgers as a midshipman on USS Constitution (1799-1800). He commanded USS Brooklyn (1802-3) before becoming captain of USS Constellation (1806-9) where he served until his promotion to rear admiral (1813). It is here that Commodore Farragut met Lady Jane Austen when she visited Pensacola Bay after her marriage to Colonel John Murray. On December 12th, 1816 he married Miss Lucy Moulton at Jamaica House with a view to capturing Trinidad Castle from Spain but this venture failed due to bad weather conditions ashore; they returned home without attempting further exploits off Hispaniola or Puerto Rico. It was while commanding US Naval Squadron #7 based at Havana Harbor that Commodore James Farragut discovered what would become known as “the galleon trail” - a series of merchant vessels sailing eastward along Cuban coast trackable by sailing ships using soundings taken at intervals along their voyage; these sightings were used by navigators to determine latitude and longitude coordinates for future voyages charting those waters. In anticipation of possible Spanish involvement in Florida following its purchase from Spain in 1800, Commodore Farragut directed Rear Admiral John Wainwright with orders to search for any such vessels northward from Key West – eventually discovering twoSpanish treasure fleets detained at Santiago de Cuba: Santa Anna (#4), carrying 400 million pesos ($10 million) worth Of silver bullion; and Don Alonso de Torres y Arellano#5 captained by Captain José Antonio Menéndez y Pelayo (#2), transporting more than 2 million pieces gold coins weighing an estimated $100 million each! The discovery gave new life bothto American exploration efforts throughout Southwestern United States as well as renewed interest within Spain itself about taking control over Florida – something which would ultimately happen via war! chests full of treasure had been fouled up en route back home…a maritime disaster! However such setbacks did not daunt Commodore James FarragUT who continued service under various flag officers until his retirement effective June 6th, 1865.. For most Americans who knew him well through letters or personal encounters during those days prior to his death March 10th 1870F arragut remains perhaps best known for leading CSS Alabama into battle against Confederate ironclad CSS Virginia off Mobile Bay on April 9 1862 resulting in combined Union/ Confederate losses totaling 133 killed & wounded including General Braxton Bragg himself As Commander U S Naval Squadron 7 During Magellan's Passage Northeastward From Havana Harbor To Virgin IslandsAugust 21st 1898 HMS Pinafore Captained By Lt Cdr JF Sutherland RN RNR sighted 5 large clamshell boats operating outbound from you anchored about 3 miles distant bearing NORTHWEST POINT OF ISLAND . This represented unmistakable evidence that you were engaged In trade With us…. You accordingly sent your Boat aboard Pinafore with Calling all hands To render assistance If Needed Within knots….. After moored there we Proceeded towar Pursueing them westwards….
