The Franklin Gun Company was founded in 1853 by two brothers, James and John Franklin. The company manufactured firearms for the American market. The company also furnished arms to the Confederate States of America during the Civil War. After the war, the company became known as the Tennessee Gun Company. In 1865, the company was bought by Andrew Wertheimer and renamed Wertheimer & Co. The company continued to manufacture firearms until it merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1899. Today, there are several companies that sell guns based in Franklin, Tennessee including Smith & Wesson Corporation, Glock Inc., and Colt Firearms Corporation.

In the early 1800s, gun parts and pieces were scarce in Franklin. This was because guns were not generally considered important until after the Revolutionary War. As gun parts became more prevalent, they began to be made with better materials and construction.
Franklin is a town in Marshall County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,651 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first white person to live in Franklin was James Robertson in 1812. He founded a small cabin near the present day town line and named it "Franklin." A post office was established thereon in 1816. In 1821, General Andrew Jackson moved his headquarters from Nashville to Franklin, so that he could better monitor Indian Affairs activities. The community gradually grew as people traveled to see Jackson's military campaigns and White House visits. By 1830, the population had reached 2,000 residents. In 1844, President James Ketchum appointed Congressman John Crain as the first postmaster of Franklin after hearing about problems with mail service being slow due to distance and lack of infrastructure in the area. In 1850-1851, construction began on what would become the world's largest sawmill at what is now downtown Franklin. The milling operation continued until 1901 when it closed due to competition from larger mills across Tennessee and Kentucky. In 1938-1939, work started on renovating much of downtown Franklin including new streets and sidewalks; also renovated were many buildings within Franklins Historic District which included such landmarks as Old Capitol Theatre (now known as First Presbyterian Church), State House Annex (now known as Independence Hall), Masons Lodge No 496 (now known as First Baptist Church), Christ Library (now called Parkway Baptist Bible Chapel), Masonic Temple No 3 (now known as Joe Ellis Chevrolet dealership) and more along these lines throughout the entire district which spanned almost one block north of Main Street between Second Street eastward along Second Street southward all the way to Fourth Street westward; this renovation project cost $5 million dollars ($ in current dollars). All said projects were completed by 1939 with very little disruption or failure however some structural damage did occur during this time frame during wild weather events like tornadoes etc... This reconstruction project truly symbolized rebirth for Downtown Franklin following years of neglect by previous administrations From 1941 until 1995 when it became part of Johnson County Metro government under then county commissioner Donnie Youngbloods administration significant repairs were made both inside and outside city limits including resurfacing streetlights which brought back vibrancy to main streets once again while keeping historic buildings preserved vernacular architecture style prevailed throughout most notably among this latter group who although they may have not personally benefited directly from all aspects of development through their patronage otherwise wielded control over various aspects thereof whether that be zoning changes or state funding considerations resulting ultimately largely into mixed success rates for either type or combination Implementing changes brought about primarily through citizen input via neighborhood meetings becoming increasingly more important with each successive elected official takingoffice subsequent progress has been virtually stagnant despite numerous attempts by various community members thru representatives at both local levels & metro level alike since 2006 aimed at reviving & revitalizing downtown franklin’s core areas
