Gallatin is a small town in Johnson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Gallatin is located on the banks of the river Cumberland, east of Johnson City and west of Nashville. It is part of the Chattanooga–Fayetteville–Memphis metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Gallatin were traders and missionaries from Europe who came to this area in 1815 and 1816. In that year, John Crouch founded a trading post here on the Cumberland River with others in what became Johnson County. In 1819, General Andrew Jackson passed through this area as he was campaigning for his second term as president. As he traveled downriver near present-day Gallatin, he stopped at Crouch's post to rest and eat some food before continuing on his way downstream. This event helped give rise to the name "Jackson's Landing." In 1830, following the annexation of Tennessee by Mississippi (see Mexican–American War), General Andrew Jackson decided to move his army upriver from Nashville towards Memphis intending to cross over into Texas via this route. However, when he reached Perfecto Road Bridge over the Cumberland River—the only crossing open at that time—he discovered that it had been destroyed by Confederate cavalry under General Nathan Bedford Forrest during an ambush two days earlier. Jackson ordered his men not to cross until after darkness had fallen so they could retreat without being ambushed again; they instead marched all night across perfecta road bridge without encountering any enemy forces. The resulting publicity led to more American business ventures coming here; gallatin became known as "Fortress Tennessee". 1) Fort Knox: This fortification was built in 1796 along with otherforts upstream around present day Chattanooga by Major Robert Ewing during Creek Indian incursion southward into our territory prior thereto mentioned...this fortification served both military purposes and traffic control until its surrender in 1865 due mainly TO Union cannonballs which caused extensive damage within...2) Union Arsenal: A large arsenal was constructed adjacent where Post Road intersects US Highway 20 about 2 miles north of present day downtown Chattanooga about 1800…it functioned as a munitions depot for artillery used against Rebels throughout much of Reconstruction period up until 1881 when everything moved elsewhere because there simply wasn’t enough room inside…3) Old Missionary Baptist Church: Built circa 1840 on property donated by William McCoy Jr., one of several proprietors who purchased land east side of river opposite Fayetteville settlement….the first white pastorate erected outside our current county limits…..4) First Presbyterian Church: A Presbyterian church was erected adjacent School House Rd./Cumberland River Rd./Old Missionary Baptist Church site c1840/renamed “First Presbyterian” upon donation by Wm McCoy Jr..5) First Methodist Episcopal Church: A Methodist Episcopal church replaced old missionary Baptist church ca 1860/renamed “First Methodist” upon donation by Jno McCoy Sr….6) Second Presbyterian Church later calledMother Emanuel AME Zion Chr.: A Methodist congregation established c1920 also acquired additional property northeast side immediately adjoining Old Missionary Baptist Church site & nighbours homes & services relocated therein soon thereafter becoming Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Chapel Incorporating mother Emanuel AME Zion Congregation which still meets today 6th St.–West End Ave NW location

Gallatin, Tennessee is a small town in Williamson County, Tennessee. The population was 2,827 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Williamson County. Gallatin was founded by James Robertson on July 8, 1811 as a post office and trading center for the area around present-day Knoxville. The first store in Gallatin was built by John Gentry in 1814. By 1830, there were six stores in the town with a total population of 3,500. In 1857, the courthouse was moved from Knoxville to Gallatin after it became apparent that Knoxville would not expand its court system to take advantage of the growing community. The town's economy changed rapidly during Reconstruction because of problems associated with white flight and violence between local gangs and black residents. Many African Americans left Gallatin for better opportunities inKnoxville or Memphis after the end of Reconstruction. In 1907, John Denny donated land to create what is now Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). MTSU has since become one of America's most prestigious universities and hasgenerated significant economic development throughout its history. Despite this recent success story, much of village life remains unchanged from when it first emerged as a small community 100 years ago
