Gallatin is a small town in Middle Tennessee, United States. It is the seat of Mercer County. The population was 3,907 at the 2010 census. Gallatin is part of the Nashville metropolitan area. The surveyor general of Tennessee in 1796 named it "Galloway" after James Galloway, an officer in the British army who had fought against American Revolutionary War forces under General George Washington. In 1802, as part of a deal to get rid of Native Americans living on his land, President James K. Polk appointed Colonel John Sevier to rename Gallatin after himself - "John Sevier Place". At that time there were only three settlements in Mercer County: Knoxville, Chattanooga and Decatur (later renamed Clarksville). In 1835, businessman and politician Andrew Johnson founded the town of Johns Creek on what would later become the east side of Gallatin Boulevard. He named it for himself and his wife Mary Todd Johnson and charged two dollars for admission to watch men drive cattle over a bridge into Johnston Creek from their farmsteads on either side of the road. By 1840, Joplin had moved into what became known as Johnson's Crossing community north of town on Ulysses S. Grant Parkway near present-day Eastern State Penitentiary; he also built a gristmill there which still stands today. In 1870, when Vanderbilt University moved from Nashville to its present campus Ellington Road between Vanderbilt Avenue and Second Street in downtown Nashville, they built one end of what is now Riverfront Stadium onto which they laid down asphalt parking lots for students and faculty members alike; this ended up becoming one block wide by 150 feet long by 10 feet deep with several levels or decks underground which are still visible today underneath Riverfront Stadium itself! The other side of Riverfront Stadium was used as housing for workers during construction while students continued attending classes above ground until 1913 when they finally vacated Riverfront Stadium entirely! Kenny Mayfield started driving truckloads (and sometimes entire trains)of coal from mines located near where Coal Ridge now stands to sell it at Dayton's MarketPlace before starting passenger service between Dayton and Memphis via Waverly Bridge across Big Branch Lake on July 4th 1915 – making him America's first railroad salesman! As more people came to live in eastern Middle Tennessee during World War II due to advances in technology such as air travel and aluminum production; many businesses closed up shop or relocated within city limits because those industries could not benefit from increased traffic congestion caused by war production sites outside city limits! However some new businesses did open up including Dr Pepper Enterprises (now PepsiCo) across First Street southwest of Presentation Mall just west of Interstate 45 North; this location has been preserved as part as part thereof also being home to One Fifth Energy Fieldhouse which opened in 1984 adjacent thereto!!! After yearsxxxxxxxxxxx truckloadsxxxxx more goods were brought into eastern MiddleTennessee utilizingRiverfrontStadium throughout the 1970s 1980s 1990s 2000s etc.; however recent studies have shown that very little if any trade or economic activity actually takes place within city limits anymore!! What once was called downtown has become much more suburban with few restaurants or stores remaining within walls formerly containing nearly 500 residential units??? Well maybe that's change we've all been waiting for...

Lee attacked Confederate forces near Gallatin while they were grazing their sheep on government land; all but three of the town's citizens deserted to the Confederacy. The remaining residents surrendered soon afterwards without any fight or bloodshed. After the war, most of Gallatin's residents relocated to larger cities like Nashville or Chattanooga because of economic opportunities in those areas during Reconstruction Era America. In 2000, much ofGallatin was placed withinKnox County until 2002 when it became an independent municipality due to lack of voter approval for annexation by neighboring Johnson County ( subsequently annexed by Johnson County ). The first settler in what is now Gallatin was Methodist Reverend James Hogg who arrived in 1819 with his family from North Carolina after being ordered to leave South Carolina because he preached abolitionism . He built a cabin on lands that are now part of downtown Knoxville . Hogg served as pastor for many years before moving away in 1830 . His son John Hogg started farming nearby in 1853 . It wasn't until 1861 when General Robert E Lee attacked Confederate forces that all but three residents of Gallatin abandoned their homes and took up arms against their own government In 1920 , there were only 350 people living in what is now Town Hall square ; however after 1990s growth rate it has increased significantly to over 2K people today There have been several expansions such as new classrooms and businesses since then including: PNC Bank Stadium which opened up shop inside campus mall back in 2006-2007; Presbyterian Hospital which opened up its doors back whengallatin was still just an agricultural community with no hospital In 2007-2008 full time employees at PNC bank stadium got raises totaling 3% across both salary levels making it one area where increasing wages has not led to job displacement so far despite overall increase at company
