Goodlettsville is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Goodlettsville was founded in 1853 by farmers from Kentucky and Virginia who came to the area to find a place to plant cotton. The town grew rapidly with many new businesses being built including a sawmill, grist mill, post office, and Baptist church. In 1892 Goodlettville became the county seat of Hardin County. The first knife made in Goodlettsville was a one-inch-thick crude blade made of hardwood that was used as an agricultural tool. By 1902 there were over 50 knife manufacturers in Goodlettsville with over 100 different types of knives available for purchase or rent. There were also several stores located in the town that sold knives and other tools. In 1908 the first knifemaker's supplies store opened up in Goodlettville and continued to be successful until it closed its doors in 1984. In 1915 two brothers named Harold and Willis Pruitt opened their own knife factory called Pruitt Knife Company which continues production today at their shop on North Main Street in Goodletttsville (located just south of downtown). Harold Pruitt died suddenly while motorcycle riding home from working at his factory late one night; his brother Willis took over operations and kept the business going until his death in 1978. Goodlettsville is a small town in Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Cumberland River and is east of Nashville. Goodlettsville was founded in 1819 by James Goodlett and his wife Rebecca. It began as a log cabin on the banks of the Cumberland River. Goodlett served as an early mayor of Goodlettsville and later became a delegate to both the Tennessee state constitutional convention and to the U.S. Congress. The Goodletsville School District serves Goodlettsville and its surrounding rural area; it has a high school, three middle schools, one junior high school, and one elementary school. Today's Goodlettsville sprang up around two churches: First Presbyterian Church (founded in 1872) and Second Baptist Church (founded in 1892). Both faiths had come to prominence due to their impact on local politics: First Presbyterian helped found Williamson County Court House while Second Baptist advocated for education reform within the community during Reconstruction period economics that led to African Americans becoming wealthier than whites across America. In addition, both denominations played important roles during fought over land grants from Tennessee businessman Philander Knox Polk which some thought would give blacks control over white agriculturally-based plantations However such efforts were ultimately thwarted by white Democratic Party dominance at state level throughout much of TN during this time frame . .
