On November 3, 1800, a group of men led by David Dickson donated land to become the foundation for what would become Robertson County courthouse square. At this time, there were no roads or sidewalks so people used wagons and carts to get around as they traveled from place to place looking for property that could be donated for a courthouse square location. On December 8, 1800, commissioners organized what would becomeRobertson County into three sections: section one included portions of current-day Manchester; section two extended northward along I-40; and section three embraced most of modern day Knoxville with its southern border located near present-day Chattanooga (the area now known as Old Hickory). In 1802, a post office called Manchester was established at the junction of State Routes 68 and 301 (now I-40) in what is now downtown Manchester. Reverend Nathaniel Sears became its first Postmaster on October 1st that year following appointment by General Jackson himself which set an example for future postmasters throughout Robertson County who served without pay until 1861 when postage rates increased under federal law mandating less expensive mail services through Richmond based postal service companies like First Class Mail Corporation (FMC). In 1815 Nathan Bedford Forrest began construction on White Oak Swamp National Battlefield near present day Knoxville where he planned to make it an undefended stronghold against Union forces during EDVA Campaigns later that year but never completed his project due to Confederate threats to burn down his fort if he did not leave it alone After meeting with local officials including Mayor John Sevier on April 11th 1861 while visiting Knoxville following Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation,, Confederate Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest agreed notto burn down White Oak Swamp Battlefield should Union troops move intoKnoxville - although some sources claim he actually destroyed partofthefort priortothemeetingsinceUnionofficerswere nearby
