Mount Juliet is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. The name originated from Mount Juliet Mountain, which is located in the town. The first settler in what is now Mount Juliet was James Robertson, who arrived in 1796. He named his new land "Mount Juliet" after the mountain he saw on his walk to see if he could find any timber hereabouts. In 1812, many Americans came to Tennessee during the Virginia-Tennessee War and set up camp around what is now Mount Juliet Mountain. Most of these men were soldiers or redcoats and they brought with them their horses and wagons full of goods that they had looted from Native Americans living near them on the Appalachian Mountains. Between 1812 and 1816 about seventy families moved into what is now Mount Juliet from settlements around Chattanooga and Nashville. In 1811–1812 a group of Methodist ministers led by Rev . John Sprague settled at Greeneville (now Henderson) Creek on Jones Valley Road just south of present day Mount Juliet as missionaries to evangelize Native American people thereabouts. They also built a small cabin for themselves and early residents there called it "Greeneville." Reverend Sprague's colony soon grew into an influential community with its own schoolhouse (1815), store (1815), post office (1817), doctor's office (1819), blacksmith shop (1820), brewery (1821), meat market(?), milk farm(?), church(?), & other public buildings including a jail where adult male prisoners were incarcerated until they could be reformed by theirJSONOPPER overseer (=Governor). At this time Tennessee had no law against interracial marriage so such unions were not reported to government officials but rather took place among friends or among self-appointed religious leaders known as circuit riders who scouted out such practices throughout the state before reporting back to Reverend Sprague about what they found! A local Presbyterian minister referred to this period as “the golden age” of mount july because so much good had come about due to missionary activity that “the surrounding country [was] become one great agricultural region; while within easy reach [were] all sorts of mineral resources that furnished several thousand dollars yearly in export profits”

The town was founded in 1814 by General James Vail and his army as a military outpost on the high ridge east of the present-day town of Mount Juliet. The site was surveyed by George Rogers Clark and named for General Vail's older brother, Sir John Knox. General Vail built himself a cabin there in 1816 while encamped near this location with his army during the Battle of Fort Donelson. In 1818, Mount Juliet became part ofKnoxville when that city was founded by pioneer David Waddell and other investors. In 1830, major Andrew Jackson made it an official U.S. posttown under his administration. With its central location on strategic battlefield terrain, Mount Juliet quickly became one of the most important towns in Knox County and one of the most important economic centers in Tennessee Valley Province (TVP). By 1840, however, its population had shrunk to only 350 people due to increasing tensions between eastern Tennesseans who were seeking maximum access to new land west of Nashville and western Tennesseans who were alarmed at what they saw as an influx of easterners into their community without adequate development or investment opportunities for them. During Reconstruction (1868-1912), Mount Juliet again experienced growth as residents relocated to Nashville because of political turmoil inside Tennessee caused by abolitionist sentiments among some southern voters and racial discrimination against black Americans withinTennessee government institutions such as education and transportation systems. However, similar problems continued to exist well after Reconstruction ended; for example, until recently black residents have not been able to vote or own property in Mount Juliet despite being racially integrated into the town’s society since shortly after its incorporation intoKnoxvillein 1865
In 1795, the Treaty of Paris was signed between France and Great Britain. It ended the French and Indian War. The treaty created a permanent peace between the two countries.
