In 1865, a group of men from Knoxville formed the Holster and Pistol Association in order to promote responsible gun ownership in that city. The city's firstHolster store opened in 1868. Over time,Knoxville gained notoriety as one of the most firearm-friendly cities in Tennessee. Throughout this time period, local holstersmiths produced many unique handguns including revolvers, shotguns, rifles and pistols. In 1903, Tacoma residents organized the Holster Manufacturers' Association in order to promote responsible gun ownership within that city's borders. At this point, there were multiple holstersmiths operating within Tacoma limits with each producing their own line of handguns (including revolvers) as well as scabbards and cases for these firearms. The association eventually disbanded due to lack of membership though it left an Influence on subsequent handgun production outside Tacoma boundaries. In 1907, Cumberland City citizens organized the Gun Owners' League of America (GOLA) in order To advocate for responsiblegunownership within that town's borders specifically! GOLA quickly emerged as one of Oregon's most influential organizations while also influencing handgun production within neighboring towns/cities across Oregon & Southwest Washington state! By 1912-1913 GOLA had developed into what is now NRA - "the national organization devoted exclusively to promoting Second Amendment rights." Portland, Tennessee is a city in the Appalachian Mountains of central Tennessee. The population was 5,856 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Knox County and is a principal city of the Knoxville metropolitan area. The name Portland may be derived from two early settler places: Prentiss on the Williamson River and Park on Cumberland River. Blackburn's 1828 map of Knox County shows that Blackburn Place was named for John Blackburn, one of three brothers who founded Blackburne House in 1792 on land now part of downtown Portland. Portland began as a small settlement called Park Springs near where Interstate 65 crosses the river just east of downtown Knoxville. In 1827, Captain Nathan Bedford Forrest built Fort Nashboro in what is now Old Town Square to protect his new colony from Indian attack. The town grew rapidly after its incorporation as a city in 1848 with the arrival of railroads and other transportation routes that made it easier to get goods and people to and from nearby mines and plantations. By 1870, Portland had become an important railroad town with major railway terminals including Union Station (now UTC -4) and Memphis Terminal Railroad Station (now FedEx Field). The growth of Portland was also spurred by its location close to coal Minesedge Creek which provided power for mills while providing water for irrigation purposes; this connection helped make Portland one of the most developed cities in Tennessee during its early years. This growth continued until World War II whenindustrial production switched from agriculture to manufacturing due to changes in technology; Portland consequently lost much economic activity during that time period although some rebuilding has taken place since then including several large projects such as MAX light rail transit lines connecting downtown with various suburbs across the cityscape.

Portland, Tennessee is a city in the Tennessee Valley region of the United States. The population was 20,814 at the 2010 census. The city is located in Hardin County and is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Portland were private traders and fur trappers who traveled along the Cumberland River in search of new land to purchase from Native Americans. In 1819, General David Walker explored these lands and named them for British general Sir John Johnson who had led an expedition into North America during the American Revolution. In 1828, President James K. Polk sent Captain James Cook on his first trip around Cape Horn as part of his efforts to explore and map new Lands west of Mexico City. On July 14th, 1830, Cook sighted Portland on his return voyage and named it after himself as he considered it one of the most important discoveries made during his travels which would lead to American expansionism. The first settler in Portland was Isaac Watts who arrived with his family in 1829 from Canton, Ohio. He built a small cabin on what is now Spring Street near where Congress Road intersects Interstate 85 today. Watts became a successful trader and real estate investor in town before dying at age 86 years old on November 17th, 1895 just prior to its incorporation into Knoxville as a borough by an act of the General Assembly on December 6th,. Many other pioneer residents followed including Drury Wills (1830-1899), Caleb Greenwood (1833-1900), Rufus King (1835-1909), Mennonite families from Kanawha County settled down around 1840; others came later including George Stephenson (c1788-1865) who founded Glasgow Mines in 1860 and developed much of present day downtown Knoxville; Rev Wm Hartsfield moved here from Georgia about 1850; Hiram Sibley (1802-1872) established Log Cabin Grove Baptist Church in 1853; German immigrants Peter Koenigsberg (1684-1759), Johann Friedrich Balthasar König (1694-1760) settled around 1800; Scandinavian settlers Ole Christensen( 1768? - 1824?), Auguste Jonsson( 1779? - 1830?) settled around 1800 according to various sources while others may have come early such as Rasmus Nielsen( c1800-) There are many interesting stories surrounding Portland's incorporation intoKnoxville including: * On December 6th 1890 when local delegates voted unanimously to incorporate Portland into Knoxville they also passed an ordinance establishing public schools within the borough* In 1903 a group spearheaded by Mrs Fannie Flagg decided that all flowers should be imported from Europe instead of grown locally* In 1916 Mayor Alfred Emanuel unveiled "Flaming Fort" or "Portland's First 7 inch gun" during Homecoming Weekend festivities which served as both a fundraiser for war effort and salute to USA military heritage
