After World War I ended, the number of students decreased due to various factors such as economic recession; however, UTK continued growing until 1949 when it became known as Vanderbilt University–Tennessee (VU-T). In 1949 also came another change as VU-T became part of the Tennessee Valley Authority which has played an important role in our society ever since.
