Binoculars have been used for viewing activity in the Tennessee Valley since at least the 18th century. The first recorded use of binoculars in Tullahoma was in 1792 when Captain James Cook utilized them while exploring the area. By 1850, there were some 400 businesses and 30 families using binoculars to view activities such as farming and hunting. During World War II, the United States Army purchased large quantities of Binoculars from China in order to improve artillery sights. In 1957, Tullahoma residents voted to establish a Binocular History Museum in memory of their fallen heroes during World War II. The museum opened on May 1, 1958 and is currently home to over 100 binoculars from throughout history.

Tullahoma is a city in Davidson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 25,912 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Davidson County. Tullahoma is located on the Cumberland River and is bordered to the north by Knoxville and to the south by Chattanooga. The first European settler in what would become Tullahoma was James Robertson in 1814. He built a cabin on the river's banks and named it "Tullahoma", after his home country of Scotland. In 1825, John Wesley Powell established a trading post near present-day downtown Tullahoma with his brother Andrew J. Powell on their father's farm just upstream from where the Cumberland River flows into Nashville Bayou. In 1863, when Confederate General Jubal Early attacked Union forces besieging Knoxville, he raided town looking for food and supplies before crossing over to Chattanooga and marching through Tullahoma on his way westward. Many people in town were killed or wounded as they wereDriven out of their homes during this time period; however, nothing remains currentlyof that era within the city limits today (though some old buildings still stand). Following World War II, many citizens of Tullahoma decided to move away from cities for economic reasons due to deindustrialization throughout much of America following World War II; however most returned once economic opportunities again emerged in subsequent decades. Growth has been sporadic since then as more jobs have been created outside of urban cores such as healthcare and technology sectors which have drawn people back into cities rather than leaving them behind only to find themselves living in large suburbs 10 miles away from their workplaces instead of downtowns like they used to be able to do prior to 2000 when job growth primarily occurred outside of cores captured by urban sprawl). In recent years there has been an effort initiated by Mayor Mick Cornett called " ReconnectingTN" which aims at redeveloping areas adjacent rural areas associated with poverty & lack thereof while also creating new jobs & businesses therein along with increasing access/quality education opportunities beyond traditional inner city public schools while also preserving natural beauty within these surrounds making it easier for suburbanites who may not otherwise be able to afford those services (& often times slower paced because redevelopment typically takes longer than initially thought)to get close enough so they can enjoy something ongoing despite distance

In 1796, Tullahoma (then spelled Tolomona) was founded by a group of Cherokee Indians. The town grew rapidly and in 1800, the United States built the first fort in Tennessee on the site of present-day Tullahoma. In 1802, General Andrew Jackson led a military campaign against Native Americans at Moccasin Bend and during the battle, he ordered his troops to fire upon the women and children accompanying the warriors. This event is known as "The Massacre of Tullahoma." Tullahoma continued to grow and by 1824, it had become an important trading post for Indian traders and settlers in what is now eastern Tennessee. In 1829, Judge John McLarty purchased land adjacent to Tullahoma from Cherokee chiefs for $10 per acre. McLarty began developing the town into a thriving community with two streets wide and several buildings tall. By 1830, Tullahoma had over 1,000 residents and was one of the most prosperous towns in east Tennessee. During its early years, Tullahoma was home to a number of famous citizens including Judge John McLarty (1829-1901), Colonel James Fenton (1812-1885), Dr. Elisha Gray (1792-1874), Senator James Fenton (1805-1868), Benjamine Burns (baptized December 12th 1794 – died September 15th 1850)and many others. In 1851, McClarty's son John Crouch McNarty inherited his father's business interests in Tullahomas when he died young. John Crouch McNarty became one of East Tennessees most successful businessmen and ranchers during his lifetime; he is also creditably responsible for helping name many current east Tennessee highways such as I-65 or TN 528 after some of his ancestors who made significant contributions to that region's history.
In 1810, the area that would become Tullahoma was donated to the Methodist Episcopal Church by James Robertson. The land was used for farming and in 1827, the church built a school on the site. In 1865, the Methodist Episcopal Church merged with the Presbyterian Church to form The Presbyterian Churches of Tennessee. In 1907, Tullahoma became a census-designated place (CDP).
