This development led to increased usage of guns and rifled firearms by armies all across Europe. In 1913, Major John A. Dorsey of Abilene, Texas patented an improved version of his original breechless shotgun called the .45 Automatic Rifle (A2). The rifle was designed as an infantry support weapon that could be fired from an open position or from behind cover using a quick release buttstock system. However, it wasn’t until World War II that handguns such as pistols and revolvers began becoming popular with American soldiers andpolice officers. As handguns became more common, they were increasingly subjected to gunfire from long range targets such as airplanes and tanks. When Brigham Young arrived in Abilene on July 12th, 1847 – his first visit to America – he published an advertisement for a meeting place for Mormons in which he invited all Germans living within seven miles of Independenceville (now Tulsa) to attend; they did so without knowing their hosts’ intentions! A week later Brigham Young sent two representatives–Joseph Smith Jr., son of Prophet Joseph Smith Sr., and Wm Phelps–to survey some available land northwest of Independenceville for Mormon settlements; they selected parcels totaling three square miles (10 km2). These were considered too expansive for colonization but may have been presented as such because they coincided with tracts already claimed by other groups interested in building furrows through which carts could transport goods from eastern Kansas City markets into western Nebraska Territory where food supplies were being accumulated during the 1850s boom period following settlement by American farmers along both sides of the Great Plains “ HERE IS SOME GOOD LAND THAT MAY BE SUSPENDED IN FORT WORTH SO THAT WE CAN INVESTigate IT MORE closely” wrote one settler who attended these meetings according to John Dillard[1].
