Alton was founded in 1873 by Edward Clements and his father-in-law, Wm. H. Burns. The town started as a small farming community and developed into a small manufacturing center during the early 20th century due to its location on the Wichita River flood plain and its access to water supplies from three rivers. In 1954, Alton became an incorporated municipality under the name of Price City when it merged with nearby Hutchinsonville to form that city's twin city--Alton-Hutchinsonville. In 2000, Alton annexed neighboring towns of Burnet and Cedar Park for municipal purposes; these annexations made it one of only two towns in Price County not annexationisted since 2000. At first most of the land around present day Alton was owned by individual families or individuals who farmed their own land or did some construction work on grants received from the government during Reconstruction Era America However over time more people started moving into this area because there were good opportunities for business growth thanks to easy access to waterways resources such as Wichita River which formed our town’s foundation There were also many small businesses that grew up throughout those years without any help from government assistance so businesses owners built property themselves often using profits earned from their products or services Today much like back then there are still many businesses located in downtown areas including Main Street where you can find banks (JPMorgan Chase), large retailers (Taco Bell), doctor offices ( Kaiser Permanente), restaurants (Comerica Bank) as well as several churches . Many residents continue working hard both recreationally & commercially within localities such as Hutchinsonville & Burnet while others have moved away over time making way for new waves of immigrants who arrived during different waves of American immigration beginning with European arrivals following World War I

Alton was founded in 1881 by General George Armstrong Custer and his family. The city was named after Alton, Illinois, which the general had visited while on his way to the ill-fated Battle of Gettysburg. The town grew rapidly due to its location near the railroad and oil wells, and by 1907 it had a population of over 100,000. In 1925, Alton became an independent city under a charter granted by the Texas Legislature. The city's growth continued through the years, with new development built on land that previously been farmland. By 1935, Alton had reached its peak population of nearly 200,000 people and was home to several large businesses including UHT oil refineries and a flour mill. However, during World War II Alton's economy suffered as many residents enlisted in military service or worked in munitions factories outside of town. After the war ended in 1945, Alton slowly regained some of its lost ground until becoming an almost obscure small town again by 1970.
