The town was founded on October 10, 1879 by John Witherspoon and his wife Anna Webber Witherspoon with the name of Hambletony (later renamed Alvin). It began as a trading post near Fort Worth with two stores and seventy-eight people living there in 1879. By 1880 it had grown to over 1,000 residents with three stores and twenty-nine people living there. The first post office opened in Alvin on November 26th of that year. In 1902 Alvin incorporated as a town under its present name after winning an election to do so from a group of six candidates who petitioned for incorporation together including one resident named Willis Polkington III who ran as "Alvin's Friend". In 1907 when it became apparent that most Texans would not vote because they were too busy farming or ranching rather than voting for their municipal officials due to state prohibition laws passed during Reconstruction which limited voting rights to citizens of certain races (the only other African Americanresident in Texas at that time), Alvin repealed its prohibition ordinance making it one of only four towns in Texas without such an ordinance at that time; all others were towns police departments which functioned as law enforcement agencies while their municipalities functioned primarily as economic development centres until recently when state regulations have returned those services back to their respective town governments again Alvin has kept pace with changing times both socially and economically through annexation into neighboringHouston since its incorporation but also experienced some local decline beginning around 1960 due largely to population growth withinHouston itself along side technological advances like television which made life much more difficult for small towns deep inside Houston’s city limits where access to education still depended largely on public transportation

After World War II ended, Amarillo experienced significant population loss due to various factors including industrialization within neighboring counties which led to less need for jobs in Amarillo; meanwhile, new schools were built throughout the county seat while older ones were closed or converted into apartments or retirement homes. However, despite these setbacks and changes over time, Amarillo has continued to thrive economically since its incorporation as a city in 1923 until today with multiple high tech companies headquartered there such as Texan Express Software Company Ltd., Dataquest Solutions Inc., CBRE Corporation / Northstar Group plc., Artisanal Moulding Services Incorporated et al..
