Andrews, Texas is a town located in El Paso County, Texas. The population was 2,643 at the 2010 census. Andrews was founded on October 25, 1879 by J. A. Andrews and Wm. Hodge. It is named after General Andrew Jackson who fought in the Mexican-American War and then became President of the United States in 1828-29. In 1895, J. A., Andrews’ son-in-law George Prentice bought land adjoining Andrews Cemetery and began to build a cotton plantation thereon known as "Prentice's Plantation." On December 12, 1907 Fannie Lou Kapp acquired title to the plantation from Mr. Prentice for $10 per acre (approximately $140 per square mile). Mrs Kapp continued to live on the plantation until her death on May 3, 1930. On December 4, 1939 Joe Brewer purchased "Prentice's Plantation" from Mrs Kapp for $30 per acre (approximately $320 per square mile). From that date until his death in 1984 it was known as "Joe Brewer's Plantation". Joe Brewer was an early settler in this area and is buried here along with his wife* and five children* who also lived here during their time: Dixie Mae (1915–1996), Lamar Bruce (born 1932), Jessie Mae (1935–2001), Donnie Ray Brewer II (1945–2013) and Melanie Lynn Brewer (born 1945).
