By October 10th, Butler's forces had reached Amiens but were forced to turn back when they encountered strong resistance from the Germans at Bastogne; this event is known as the Battle of Amiens. As a result of its participation in World War II,Balch Springs has been awarded numerous awards including being one of " America's Top 20 Places To Live" by Forbes magazine in 2005 and 2006.
