It was published by The Citizens Newspaper Company and it continued to be published until 1955. From 1955-1991, Gunz magazine was published by The Gulf Coast Publications Group. From 1991-1998 it was published by Gulf Publishing Company before being purchased by GSM Media in 1998. Gulf Publishing Company printed Gunz magazine sporadically from 1998-2001 before they ceased operations completely in 2001. After discontinuing publication, Gunz was stored at Lee Printing Press until it was donated to the BayCity Heritage Museum in 2003. At this time, it had not been reprinted since its early days as an independent publication

Bay City is a city in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 21,742 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Johnson County. Bay City is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The history of Bay City goes back to 1827 when it was founded as a trading post by Captain George Waco and his brother-in-law, John Denton. In 1835, Bay City became the first incorporated town in Johnson County. On October 5, 1881, Bay City annexed neighboring towns of Higgins and Pleasant Hill. By 1907, all but two of the original towns had merged into Bay City or were absorbed into other larger cities within Johnson County including Garland and Arlington Heights.
