With so many people coming through town, business boomed and within a few years, Bonham had become one of Texan history's most bustling towns. After World War II ended, Bonham's growth halted as many Texans returned home to build new lives or move away for other opportunities. However, over time new businesses have begun to open up in downtown BonHAM and more residents have moved into older properties along US Highway 281 which bisects the city center like fingers pointing in opposite directions (sometimes called "the ring"). Today'sBonHAM is still growing rapidly due in part to its Location - just minutes away from major shopping districts such as Austin-Round Rock and San Antonio - as well as its strong partnerships with two universities: UT Southwestern Medical Center (USM) & Rice University (Rice).
