Bonham is a town in Collin County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,827 at the 2010 census. The Bonham area has been inhabited by the Chisox and Wichita tribes for centuries. The first European to visit what is now Bonham was José de Jesús Hidalgo on November 15, 1769. James Bowie found it on July 4, 1836 while exploring the Red River region of Texas. He named it "Bowie's Land" after his friend and neighbor John Bowie. In 1853, General Sam Houston granted homestead rights to 100 settlers in what is now Bonham Creek Township. They named their community Houstonville because they were afraid that Austin would take away their land if they called themselves Texans. In 1859, General Zachary Taylor renamed the town "Bonham" in honor of General Houston's father-in-law William Averell Smith who had donated land for the town site. Houstonville became a small farming community with a few stores and homes until the opening of San Antonio Southern Railroad in 1865 which allowed goods to be transported easily from east to west across central Texas without having to go through Dallas or Fort Worth. This opened up new opportunities for Bonham farmers and helped drive out cattle drives that used to bring supplies back and forth between these two towns during this time period

Bonham is a town in Potter County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,604 at the 2010 census. Bonham was founded in 1881 by settlers from New York City. It became a county seat in 1907 and lost its status as a county seat after it was annexed by Hudspeth County. In 1861, General Robert E Lee's army passed through the town on their way to Fort Hood in nearby Fort Worth. A store owned by Laddie and Hilda Bonham closed down shortly afterwards because of the Union occupation of Texas. A post office called Bonham was established in 1881, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1903. The first settler to arrive in what is now Potter County was Lucius Wickersham who arrived on November 7,1881 with his family from Kingston upon Thames, England. Wickersham named his land "BonHAM" for his wife Henrietta (Henderson) Bonham (née Hale). Henderson also named her home "The Hills". In 1907, the town of Bonham lost its status as a county seat when Hudspeth County annexed it into its own jurisdiction. On February 2nd of that year, $1,000 cash were given to the new county clerk for use during annexation proceedings which included remarks about how much better things would have been had the town not been annexed; however this money never reached its intended recipient due to bank failures during World War I which left many Texans without means of support. The post office reopened on July 14th 1909 under mail service from Dallas/Fort Worth although no delivery ever took place due to an interurban train derailment just east of town near Shady Grove Cemetery which destroyed most of the infrastructure necessary for mail delivery including tracks and switchyards needed for trains travelling between Houston and Dallas/Fort Worth while also disrupting traffic heading west towardsbonHAM along Pkwy & freestone Rd

Bonham is located in Dallas County, Texas. The town was founded by George Washington Bonham in 1872. It was named for General Andrew Jackson Bonham, who served as a United States Marshal for Dallas County from 1856 to 1861.
