Bonham is a town in McLennan County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,418 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Bonham is located on FM 620 north of Waco and south of Amarillo. The town was founded by Methodist missionaries in 1881 as a farming community near what is now Fort Worth; it grew rapidly as a result of its joined railroad and phosphate mining industries. In 1904, the townsite was annexed to Fort Worth; Bonham remained an independent municipality until 1959 when it became part of the larger city. The post office closed in 1995, but the ZIP code for Bonham has been unchanged since then. The town's original name was "Waco". A post office called "Bonham" opened in 1881, and continued until 1907. A new post office opened in 1909, and continued until 1958. In 1901, John Hatton built a log cabin on what is now FM 620 northeast of Bonham; he named it Hatton’s Log Cabin after his father-in-law, James Hatton (1825–1902). The first store there was established by Jno Bigham & Bros., which operated from 1902 to 1905; this store burned down on July 15, 1903. A second store operated from 1906 to 1908 under the ownership of Ethel Ransom & Co.; this store also burned down on July 15, 1908. Bigham organized farmers' associations in 1912 and 1914 to help promote land settlement within McLennan County; these groups helped buy over 6 million acres (24 km²) for farming over the next two decades – more than any other group involved in this process. One such organization –the McLennan Agricultural Development League – sponsored ranches that provided milk production services to local farmers during World War I (1914–18). By 1919 most agriculture had been eliminated within McLennan County due to Prohibition ; however some small businesses still managed operations thanks to state government agroforestry programs That same year saw the opening of Bob Jones Driveine Restaurant across from courthouse complex; this later became known as “The Keg” because its founders - especially Bob Jones - were known for their support for beer brewing at home rather than importation or distribution through restaurants or bars.. In 1927 construction began on Wiley Post Office #1 which served as both a warehouse and general convenience store before becoming operational September 3rd 1928 with mail delivery service.. In 1930 an additionWas addedto Post Office Complex giving it 2 stories making it one story taller than today’s building! On November 14th 1936 additional Additionwas madeto Post Offices Complex giving it 4 stories again making it one story tall making it oneof largest buildings ever constructed in McLennan County! These include shoulder straps and retention devices known as clasps. Eventually, holsters became so common that they began appearing on police officers and other law enforcement personnel as well. With more people carrying firearms openly around town than ever before, each individual now had his or her own holster specifically made for that purpose! Today, most citizens still prefer holsters when traveling because they provide a degree of security when carrying their firearms about town - no matter where you are!
