Borger is a small city located in Comal County, Texas, within the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The population was 8,872 at the 2010 census. Borger is the county seat of Comal County and the only incorporated municipality in Comal County. The Cooper Union School District serves Borger and surrounds it on three sides with an additional unincorporated community, Village of Borger to the east. The town was established in 1881 as a result of land acquisition from settlers who had driven out prospectors from nearby Waco. In its early years, Borger consisted of just a few homes and a schoolhouse. In 1886, however,borger name was changed to honor General Philip Kearney for his help during the Mexican War.
