Brenham is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas. It was founded by Texans in 1876 and has grown ever since. The population of Brenham was 1,827 as of the 2010 census. The largest employer in Brenham is the Kress Paper Company which employs over 1,000 people. Other local businesses include the Brenham Elementary School District and the Brenham Rangers football team. The history of Brenham begins with some pioneers who landed on the Brazos River in 1876. They named their new town after BRENHAM, England, where they had been born and raised. This early community functioned primarily as a trading post and did not have any resident schools until 1886 when an elementary school opened thanks to a donation from Mr. J.D. McAllister of Dallas (later Mrs.) In 1902, another elementary school was built and named for Mrs. Lillie Denton Foard (the first female mayor of Austin). In 1944, two-thirds of the citizens of Hudspeth County were relocated to Brenham when that county was merged into Travis County (still headquartered in Austin). After World War II ended, many other businesses closed down or moved out due to technological advances such as television and refrigeration; however, Kress Paper Company kept expanding its operations until it employed 1,000 workers in 1998 when it merged with Great Western Paper Co., one of America’s oldest paper companies dating back to 1865! Today’s Kress Paper company remains one of hte most iconic employers in downtown Brenham! Brenham became home to UTEP during the 1990s when East Texas State University moved there from El Paso following allegations by then UTEP President George Hargrave that state appropriations were inadequate for East Texas State’s needs! Today much like old times at UTEP-With more than 19 years uninterrupted growth!! However while TXSTATE continues to thrive & contribute significantly To hte Community; East Texas UTEP has set itself apart thruout its duration by creating numerous endowed chairs/programmes/etc…. Which sets them apart both athletically & academically from any other college or university within this area….. And makes life easier for all involved……..

The town began as a farming village on the eastern edge of what is now Brenham. It was named after Samuel Brenham, an early settler who purchased land in 1853. By 1870, Brenham had become a thriving agricultural center with several large farms and dozens of smaller families. The area's fertile soil made it well-suited for growing cotton and other crops; this led to Brenham's nickname "Cottonopolis." In the 1920s and 1930s, Brenham experienced some significant growth thanks to its affiliation with the Austin metropolitan area. In 1923, when Austin became one of Texas' five state capitals, BrenHAM became one of its first communities statewide. This relationship continued until TXA swallowed up all incorporated areas within Travis County in 1959. Today, much of what once comprised downtownAustin remains within city limits while portions of downtownBrenHAM reside within rural Brazoria County - making it one of only a few jurisdictions in Texas without any city boundaries
