Brownsville, Texas is a small town located in the Mexican state of Veracruz. The name Brownsville comes from the Spanish word "buitre", meaning "buffalo". In 1881, about 60 people lived in Brownsville and employed 10 traders. By 1912, there were only about 30 residents and 11 traders. At that time, Brownsville was part of the Tejas Indian Mission. In 1892, US Army Captain James Wray built a small fort at the mouth of Bachia Creek to protect American citizens traveling through Veracruz on their way to visit Mexico City. In 1899-1900, Brown’s Store and Hotel became the first store in Brownsville and served as an important link between Americans and Mexicans. On May 25th, 1912,CB&Q Railroad erected a large signal tower at what is now 6th Street and Padre Avenue in downtown Brownsville to serve as its main hub for transportation within Veracruz County. This was one of CB&Q's first steps towards becoming an intermodal railroad company. In 1916-1917, Brownsville experienced some significant changes when World War I began with Austria-Hungary invading Hungary from the east while Germany invaded Belgium from the south. The result was a series of bombings across Europe which left many buildings damaged or destroyed including most importantly Brown's Store which reopened after the war with new ownership and continued success until it closed in 1954 due to economic reasons. The end result of World War I also led to increased trade activity between America and Mexico because goods purchased by Americans bypassed tariffs that had been put into place since before war started). This increased trade led to more jobs for Mexicans who were then able to purchase itemsAmericans could not service because they were made outside of America like shoes being produced by Japanese firms outside China without tariffs! From this increased demand came increased prices for goods exported out of Mexico so businesses such as Brown's Store had no choice but increase prices on their products even further leading to its eventual closure during the Great Depression era despite protests from local citizens who saw their stores closing while they still enjoyed profits!

AfterHOUSTON's victory over Mexico at the Battle of Buena Vista on December 6th 1835, he decided to send troops through Brownsville to help repel Mexican forces from Fort Worth Island but never did so because his army was too exhausted from battle that day's fighting to continue further into Mexico

Brownsville is a city in Starr County, Texas, United States. The population was 11,927 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. Brownsville was founded on November 16, 1879 by Anglo-American settlers as an open-air trading post near the confluence of the Canadian and Brazos rivers. The site became a town on December 1, 1881 when it was incorporated as Brownsville Settlement No. 2. On October 29, 1886, Brownsville Settlement No. 1 merged with settlement No. 2 to become the first organized municipality in Starr County. By 1890, most of the original settlers had left for more fertile land elsewhere in what is now Dallas County or West Texas; only a few families remained until after World War II when new arrivals began arriving and continuing to form communities such as Myers Park and Commerce City. On January 14, 1901, with approval from the Mexican government under President Porfirio Diaz orders,[1] Ulysses S. Grant Caldwell arrived at Brownsville with his family from Arkansas to purchase 160 acres (60 ha) of land east of the Brazos River for $5 per acre (2 ha). Caldwell opened up this tract known today as Caldwell Ranch which he named after himself and his father US Senator James Kenedy Caldwell (1859-1937), one of six signers of an act authorizing Mexico's purchase of American lands in West Texas during its brief existence as a republic following independence from Spain in 1821.[2] In 1902 agriculturalist George Waggoner donated 350 acres (150 ha) northeast of town to establish Waggoner Colony which grew into Brownstown Village before it too lost its water supply and closed down in 1972 due to lack of demand; today only building foundations remain above ground level.[3] In 1907 construction began on Arlington Bayou Bridge across Arlington Creek which would connect downtown Brownsville with eventually future Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan areas;[4][5] this bridge still stands today and has been used by both locals and visitors alike since its completion over 100 years ago! In 1912 local businessmen Prentice Murchison & Sons built America's first large scale concrete plant outside Brownsville – now known as Midland Concrete – which soon became synonymous with economic development within that community along with other early industrial sites including Shiprock cement plants & Refinery #1 southwest Unocal refinery located just off FM 1960 about 10 miles west (the present day signature interchange between I-35W and Loop 1202),[6][7] all situated just east of downtown where Interstate 10 concurrent US 90 presently intersects I-10 WB
The Brownsville, Texas area was a major center of cotton cultivation in the early 1800s. The towns of Brownsville and Refugio were founded in 1827 and 1829, respectively. The first cotton gin in the region was built in 1836 by James A. Smith at what is now the corner of Fifth and Main Streets in Refugio. In 1850, the town of Brownstown was founded on the site of present-day Uptown Brownsville.
