Bryan, Texas is a town located in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 1,895 at the 2010 census. It has been home to a number of businesses and schools, including Bryan-College Station Independent School District and Bryan-Marshall County High School. The townsite is named after James Hogg, who fought in the Mexican–American War and also served as a delegate to the 1848 United States Constitutional Convention. The town was founded in 1879 by John Aiken and others from nearby Marshall County. In February 1907, it became one of nineteen jurisdictions within the original Travis County when it was split from neighboring Williamson County. The county seat moved from Austin to Bryan in 1912 before moving back again to Austin in 1930. In 1998, Bryan had its own municipal government with a mayor and six council members elected through plurality voting instead of partisan districts like most other Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan areas do today. The city annexed parts of unincorporated Brazoria County in 2002 (renaming itself "Bryan City" because part of its boundaries overlapped that of Brazoria) but retains extraterritorial jurisdiction over all municipalities within Travis County with which it shares borders—including Bryan—to this day (though decisions about annexation are made through negotiations between both cities). In 2006, construction began on an $ expansion project for the College Station Independent School District that will add more than 100 new classrooms and two dozen new offices buildings to campus across three campuses: North Campus near downtown College Station; East Campus near Interstate 10; and South Campus near Highway 36/Upper Slaughter Road just south of I-10 outside downtown College Station proper. This project is expected to bring about 2,000 jobs directly or indirectly into the district once completed - making it one of only two school districts statewide with such massive growth since 2000! The community has long been known for its agricultural products such as cottonseed oil (a key export commodity), coffee beans, cornmeal, ricebeans, vegetables (including tomatoes), honeydews cheesecloth fabricating supplies for textiles production throughout much of Mexico City's southern border region where those goods are exported tariff free by truckloads direct to those countries' cities; cattle ranches important tourist attractions serving up fresh cowhands & horses during rodeo events at fairgrounds located scattered around central & eastern TX; swimming holes popular among locals year round (& adjacent Corpus Christi);Mormon missionaries proselytizing hereabouts during theirholyweekendperiods; numerous small privetaceous ponds situated throughout rural portions surrounding town limits providing attractive watering spots amidst dense texas mesquite scrubland habitats rich with wildlife including bobcats & prairie dogs; Numerous subdivisions containing “churches” - typically independent Baptist or Methodist churches - dotting various rural communities throughout these parts many serving primarily family values & hosting amateur golf tournaments annually attracting area high school seniors as well...and so forth!
