The small town was founded by John Carroll and his family in 1848 as a result of the greatamine pandemic that swept through the Lone Star State at that time. John Carrol had emigrated from Ireland and settled in what is now Carrollton on land he purchased from Antonio López de Santa Anna after he had been impeached as a result of the Mexican-American War. With its rolling hills and lovely downtown core, Carrollton quickly became an agricultural center during the early years of this century. The town's first store opened in 1851 and soon began to grow thanks to its location close to several major railroads. Today, much of Carrollton's infrastructure still remains largely unchanged from those early days: The town has two libraries (one branch opened in 1951), four churches (three Baptist, one Methodist), two schools (grades pre-K-8th; grades 9-12th; both closed during World War II), three business districts (two with over 100 businesses; one with over 300 businesses), five post office buildings (all former mail boxes building currently used as retail space), multiple parks/recreational areas including Dogwood Park which features a large playground/entertainment complex/, more than 50 residences totaling around 2,000 square feet/eight bedrooms/ twelve bathrooms amidst dense housing development dating back to the 1920s*, three miles of well-maintained streetscape* - even some original shutters are still present on many homes - plus numerous smaller businesses providing services such as mechanics** and hair dressers*** - making Carrollton one highly livable community today. As mentioned earlier, much of what remains from past eras can be seen throughout today's communities such as Dogwood Park where there is a large playground/entertainment complex/, more than 50 residences totaling around 2,000 square feet/eight bedrooms/ twelve bathrooms amongst dense housing development dating back to the 1920s*, three miles of well-maintained streetscape* - even some original shutters are still present on many homes - plus numerous smaller businesses providing services such as mechanics** and hair dressers***A wide varietyof cultural events are often held throughout year including art shows**** real estate shows***** country music festivals ***** chess tournaments *****. There have also been several successful restaurant openings recently like Baja Fresh*****enny's*****Pizza*****and Hyatt Regency*****. In recent years local elected officials have made strides towards improving public transportation within town limits by investing in bike lanes****DART buses****ntransportation systems*****. This includes ideas being put forth for developing an streetcar system****MetroRail******along portions of Old Town along Farm Road 1020 which would provide easy access into town for residents who may not live near any bus or train stations.*Recently another effort has been put forward to improve wastewater treatment within town limits by purchasing an existing sewage plant within walking distance *(see link below) In addition there has been talk about developing new public transportation options like light rail ****LRT*********/suburban trains *****/metro ***MTR*********/ *This project will likely take many years before fruition

Carrollton, Texas was founded in 1836 by General James Fayette Carroll and his wife Sarah. The city was named for General Carroll's brother-in-law, Patrick Carroll. The first post office in the city opened in 1840. By 1848, the population of the city had grown to over 5,000. In 1850, a courthouse and jail were built in town. The town prospered until the Mexican War caused a humanitarian crisis that led to population growth once again. A cotton gin and stockyards were established in 1860 and soon became one of Texas' leading economic engines. In 1870, the state legislature passed a bill authorizing taxation of internal improvements within county limits. This helped spur development around the new cotton gin area including railroad construction and new homes The cotton gin industry declined after World War I but revived during World War II due to importation of petroleum from Mexico. Although production peaked at about 60 million pounds in 1945, it has since decreased significantly due to strikes and other factors In 1948, an oil well was discovered on land adjacent to present day downtown Carrollton and large drilling operations began immediately The original downtown business district was developed around what is now Rice University as part of plans for downtown revitalization . Today this district includes many shopping centers as well as several high-end restaurants
Carrollton was founded in 1836 by the Carroll family. The area soon became a center for cattle and agriculture, and the town grew significantly during the late 19th century. In 1907, Carrollton post office was moved from its original location to a more central part of the town. In 1922, Carrollton experienced its first tornado outbreak. The storm killed three people and injured dozens of others. It remains one of the most destructive tornadoes in Texas history. In 1960, Carrollton voters passed a resolution recognizing Korean American citizens as residents of the town. In 1984, Carrollton became an all-black city pursuant to an ordinance passed by City Council members Johnnie Atkinson and Floyd Richardson Sr.. However, white residents continued to refer to themselves as "white citizens."
