Carrollton is a town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 7,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Tarrant County. Carrollton is named after General Andrew Jackson's home county of Virginia. The community was founded in 1881 when railroad pioneer James Hogg set up shop there. By 1902, it had a post office and two churches. In 1912, the first school opened in the town and served grades K-12; by 1915, that number had grown to 10 schools with an enrollment of 2,000 students. The first hospital opened in 1916 and became known as the Carrollton Hospital Annex; by 1922 it had become the Carrollton Hospital for Children. A new courthouse was built in 1928; it now serves as the courthouse annex for District Court No. 3 (which includes neighboring unincorporated communities such as Lubbock and Garland). In 1965, Carrolton annexed part of Midland Township; by 1970, it had annexed all of Midland Township east of Interstate 20 and all but one block south of Interstate 35W. In 1987–1988, Carrolton also annexed Clear Creek Canyon Village which lies within its limits on both sides of Southgate Road between Loop 610 Waco Road (the original route) and I-20/35W exit 172B (the current route). The annexation created what is now called "Carrollton" from portions of Clear Creek Canyon Village (northwest corner), Midland Township east of I-20/35W exit 172A (southwest corner), and part of Clear Creek Canyon Village west of I-20/35W exit 172B eastern border with Lubbock County

On December 1, 1938, Carrollton celebrated its centennial with an exhibit on local history and culture at then-Texas Southern University. On January 22, 1959, President Dwight Eisenhower announced that he would be commuting the death sentence of Ira J. Holdridge to life imprisonment at Huntsville Federal Prison without parole due to his age at that time. Holdridge had been convicted of murder during World War II while serving as an American soldier in Europe. On October 3, 1961 night residents became aware that strange noises could be heard coming from their homes after hours; these noises continued throughout the morning and into afternoon until finally authorities discovered a fire in a vacant lot located just east of town center which had started accidentally due to faulty birthday candles being used by some children playing there that day
Carrollton was founded in 1876 by General James H. Carroll and his wife, Anne Wingate. The town served as a military post during the Mexican-American War and later became a center for cotton farming. In 1915, the United States Army built Fort Worth Army Base in the town to serve as an artillery base for World War I. The base closed in 1919, but Carrollton continued to grow with its new industries and population. In 1930, the Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine was established in the town; this led to increased development around the school and eventual growth of the surrounding community. Today, Carrollton is a thriving city with several popular tourist attractions, including its Fortune 500 headquarters company and numerous shopping malls.
