Cedar Park is a town in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,521 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first settlers in what would become Cedar Park were two families from New Mexico who came to Texas in 1847. They named their settlement after a large cedar tree they saw near their rancho (ranch). In 1850, John Wesley Powell and his party explored the Colorado River region and came across Lake Texoma while traveling along its course. After exploring this new territory, they named their new settlement for General James Kenedy—in honor of General George Armstrong Custer who had died during the Mexican-American War three years earlier at Battle of Buena Vista Canyon in Arizona. This site was also where Fort Worth now stands. In 1856, J P Richardson built a small log cabin here which became his home for many years until he sold it to Rufus Peck in 1886 for $1 million dollars ($ as of 2019). As Cedar Park grew more populous over time it began to require more space so Richardson built another small cabin on top of his original one which still stands today as part of Lakeside Manor subdivision administered by Hillsboro Independent School District #2A (Houston Independent School District #2A covers much of eastern Dallas/Fort Worth) On October 15th 1907 local citizens met at Mrs Fenton's house thence elected president Wm A Harris as "Cemetery Committee". On December 2nd 1907 an Act was passed by vote that provided: "That there be erected within this town a cemetery … within five years thereafter." The first interment took place November 4th 1908 with Chas Smedley buried there with full military honors including four guns! The "First Methodist Episcopal Church" was organized December 5th 1914 with Reverends G E Smith and C B Weaver officiating soon after services were preached by Rev Dr Geo Meeks USMCha . Mr J Dickson became Pastor about 1915-1920 Rev Dr Geo Meeks served until his death 1923; Thereafter Rev Dr Beverly Wills filled that role until her retirement 1945 A stone tablet marks her grave next to Rev Dr Beverly Wills' remains In memory of those lost in World War I she instituted fund raising activities which resulted in erection of Memorial Brick Wall near Cemetery entrance

In 1951, when CedarPark became a city, it experienced rapid growth due to its importance as an agricultural center for Tarrant County. Over time, businesses such as Stillwater Brewing Company (founded 1907), City Service (now used by Verizon) and Midway Clothing have thrived within the limits of what is now downtown Cedar Park thanks to its close proximity to highway 281A/I-30/U-S-281A/I-30W interchange. Downtown has seen significant renovation over recent years including new development along Main Street; however some older buildings still remain commercially active including First National Bank (founded 1902) on Market Street and People'sBank (established 1865) on Elm Street across from Midway Clothing Store on Third Avenue South

Cedar Park was founded in 1881 as a small town on the banks of the Trinity River. The town gradually grew, and in 1907 Cedar Park became a city. In 1925 Cedar Park merged with Arlington to form the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. In 2011 Cedar Park was annexed by Denton County and is now part of the Denton-Arlington Combined Statistical Area.
