Cleburne is a city in Webb County, Texas, United States. It is the smallest city in Webb County by population. The population was 2,895 at the 2010 census. As of the 2015 estimate, the population had grown to 3,373. The first known permanent settler in what is now Cleburne was James Hogg in 1836. He named his new location for General Andrew Jackson and his family who were living nearby on an farm near Jourdan. The post office was established at Hogg's station on October 6, 1837. In 1840, Judge John Sibley arrived from Louisiana and platted what would become Cleburne Township with land grants to thirty-six men including Hogg. In 1851 David Aiken surveyed and platted what became Cleburne Township which included most of present-dayCleburne City limits. One of Aiken's patents lists nine residents as " settlers." By 1860 there were over fifty people living in Cleburne Township when it was organized into a school district (later renamed Clear Creek School District). Andrew Carnegie built a mill here in 1901 and donated land for use as a mental hospital in 1907 which would later be renamed Wexford Hospital; both structures still stand today adjacent to Clear Creek Boulevard east of I-10 Deming Street NE/NEXT
