The Wetheralds named their discoveries Estes Park and Santa Fe Springs after their families' home towns respectively (Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, where George Wetherald was born) The town started as a small community of about eighty residents around Burruss Bayou which included many houses built from logs salvaged from the nearby Railroad Cutters mine. By 1915 it had grown to over one thousand residents living scattered throughout four villages: Grosse Pointe Farms (later annexed by Detroit), Northshore Village (now Arlington Heights), Southshore Village (now Venice), and Eastshore Village (now Clearwater Beach). Cove's growth was helped by World War I when aluminum cans became common because they could not be made from metal but only from zinc or lead ore In 1938 voters approved incorporation into Ellis County In 1943 Copperas Cove became part of the newly created Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area whenDallas annexed all of Ellis County including portions east of US Highway 75 . Copperas Cove is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,568 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. Copperas Cove first began to be developed in the late 1800s as a location for silver mining operations. The earliest development took place in what is now called Old Copperas Cove. Mining continued until 1902 when production ceased because of overproduction by the Comstock Mines Company. In 1913, a post office was established in Copperas Cove and it remained open until it closed on May 6, 1930. After that date, copper veins were discovered further down the mountain and new postal addresses were needed so mail could continue to be delivered directly to the miners instead of going through Hudsonville which required stops at other towns along the way. The local economy has been largely based on agriculture since before statehood and during World War II copper mine royalties helped support local farmers while also providing funds for military needs such as tanks and planes. Today, Copperas Cove still has a small but significant agricultural industry with some 7 businesses employing about 50 people directly or indirectly involved in producing goods and services for consumers within its boundaries including three wineries (Saddleback Vineyards & Winery; Troughton Vineyards & Winery; Willacy Vineyards), four restaurants (The Hacienda Inn; Frontier Grill & Lounge; Red Lobster seafood restaurant), two banks ( Independent Bank Branch #1 ; Prairie National Bank Branch #2 ), six stores (Jasper's Grocery store - opened in 1911; Post Office Store - first built 1892) and two schools (Church Hill Elementary School - opened in 1965). Most residents are self-employed with most families doing some form of farming or ranching/commercial fishing as their main source of income supplemented by blacksmithing, woodworking, carpentry and other trades that have long been important parts of Texan culture. One interesting aspect of this culture is that many people here still use traditionalmethods like cobbling together pieces from old barnacles found lying around or using salvaged materials whenever possible due to lack of available equipment or even simple availability today’s equivalents like hand tools which remain popular among many residents who feel they can do better than those products available anywhere else
