Del Rio is a city in the Mexican state of Baja California. It was founded in 1821 by Anglos, who named it after their new home of Santa Fe, New Mexico. The town grew rapidly as a result of its location on the Trans-Mexican Railway and other transportation opportunities. By 1870, Del Rio had become one of the most prosperous cities in Baja California. However, during thelate 19th century economic decline in Mexico led to social unrest and decline in population. In 1915, local prohibitionists successfully campaigned to have Prohibition repealed and Del Rio became one of the first American cities to embrace prohibitionism. In 1933, Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected president of America and his New Deal began to take hold across America; however, much like many northern towns during this time period that were struggling with poverty and crime rates (known as "The Great Depression"), Del Rio also saw an increase in crime despite government efforts to reduce it. The steady increase in crime throughout the 1930s has been linked with several factors including changing social norms which contributed to increased access to firearms through organized gangssters such as La Cosa Nostra (the Mafia) and Norteño criminals such as Emiliano Zapata's National Revolutionary Party (PAN). After World War II ended, criminal activity decreased but gangster life continued unabated due largely to lack of available law enforcement resources during peacetime periods when cartels could control large areas without fear of retribution from the government or public opinion
Del Rio is a city in Bexar County, Texas, United States. The population was 103,904 at the 2010 census. It is the seventh-largest city in Texas and the second-largest city in Bexar County after San Antonio. The name comes from Spanish meaning "river of rain." The area that would become Del Rio was first settled by American Indians in the 17th century. In 1836, gold was discovered near modern day Del Rio and hotel builders soon sprang up to capitalize on this new opportunity. The town of Del Rio was founded on May 20, 1840 by Captain Arthur Godfrey and his brother Colonel John Godfrey as a stop along the Santa Fe Trail. By 1845, over 1,000 people had gathered around what became known as Godfrey's Round House for trade and entertainment. A post office called Godfreyville was established in 1846, but it failed to take off and been closed within a year. A new post office named Del Rio was opened on December 2, 1850 by Major General William Hogg with letters sent from Fort Worth. The original town site included present day downtown Del Rio as well as parts of today's east side and west side of Interstate 10. The discovery of oil near Odessa in 1907 led to an increase in business around town while also creating local jobs for many residents including many musicians who performed at local hotels during prohibition era (1912-1916). Many businesses vacated during World War II because of shortages caused by the war effort; however most reopened after hostilities ended when production returned to normal levels. In 1957–58 voters approved annexation of portions of neighboring Austin into Bexar County which greatly increased the size and population of Del Rio without providing any financial compensation or other benefits to its citizens or municipalities involved therein (the annexed areas comprise much larger than those now located within Bexar County). In 1971–72 a master plan for redevelopment called "Oasis" resulted in major changes to both physical appearance and demographic makeup with more high- density development closer to transportation arteries such as I-10/I-35s while preserving some historic buildings along Main Street throughout much of downtown (now known formally as "Downtown Oasis"). Today there are several concentrations indicative of early 21st century American culture including several large music venues clustered along main street although Craft Brewery has since relocated elsewhere adjacent to IMAX Theater complex - another reminder that growth patterns often continue even when specific neighborhoods or districts experience decline or abandonment

Del Rio is a city in the U.S. state of Texas and the seat of Hudspeth County. The population was 2,695 at the 2010 census, down from 3,015 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The Bulkley-Pope oil fields are located in Del Rio and produce about two million barrels of oil a day. The early Del Rio settlers were farmers who came to this area in 1849 after traveling through what is now Oklahoma and Kansas looking for land to settle. In 1853, an act known as the Pike Act gave Texans a piece of Mexico that would include present-day Del Rio and portions of Round Rock, which is now Austin. The town's first school was built on July 6th, 1854 by teachers from Georgetown during Reconstruction era education efforts following Texan Civil War victory over Confederate forces at Houston (now Houston). On October 16th, 1861, South Texas Reflexes militia under General John Biano burned Fort Sumter in Dallas while CSA forces were occupying Galveston; this started the Texas Revolution against Mexican rule that ended with Mexican independence on October 29th, 1912. In 1865 cotton gin proprietor James Hogg founded horticulture production facility east of town along Smith River near present day IH 35W/IH 30W junction; it became one of largest cotton plantation operations in United States before closure in 1933 due to public health concerns associated with heavy use of pesticides and other chemicals used on plantations during early 20th century American civil rights movement period. In 1886 US Railway agreed to build tracks through town – first railway southward from Gulfport Mississippi across TX border into Texas was completed Del Rio Railroad Company line north from GPH&O RR main line east into Hudspeth County on June 12th 1886 by order of Texas Govt.; mainline connected major cities all alongTX railroading corridor starting here then via OKRA & Red River Valley Railroads into TX en route to Amarillo [now Amarillo] Neches Pass served as terminus . Del Rio was founded by Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna in 1795. It became a part of the Republic of Texas in 1836 and was named for General Santa Anna.
