During World War II, local farmers turned to canning for food production when an abundant crop failed due to drought conditions caused by Hurricane Katrina that struck Gulf Coast America in August 2005 . Canning became very popular due to its yields being much higher than traditional farming methods which also led to increased demand for products throughout eastern Texas . Today, Donna is home to a variety of businesses such as two banks (one national bank and one local), two health care providers (one large chain/private hospital and one smaller chain/private hospital), four restaurants (two fast food places plus one full service restaurant), three stores (a grocery store, a tire store and a convenience store), two churches (one Baptist church with worship services every day from 9am-3pm along with bible classes offered twice weekly), several military installations including an airbase housing helicopters that serve farmers markets in nearby Lubbock; several small cemeteries; three golf courses; six swimming pools; eight tennis courts; twelve historical homes dating back to 1840s-1910s all within walking distance of each other making it easy to explore its many attractions!
