Duncanville, Texas had its beginnings in the early 1900s as a small community on the banks of the Colorado River. The town was named after General Duncan, who fought in the Mexican-American War and later became governor of California. In 1907, Duncanville was incorporated as a city and quickly became known for its ammunition production. Ammunition is one of the most important items found at military sites across America and Duncanville has been an important producer of ammo for over 100 years. The first factory opened in Duncanville in 1908 and produced rounds for shotguns and handguns. By 1915, there were three factories located in Duncanville: one that manufactured rifles and shotguns, another that made pistols and revolvers, and a third that made ammunition boxes. Ammunition production continued to grow throughout World War I until it peaked at 1 million rounds per month by 1918. However, during World War II ammunition production decreased due to wartime restrictions on imports from Germany. However, by 1945 ammunition production had resumed fully thanks to new plant construction within the city limits. Today, Ammo Industries produces both rifle bullets and shotgun rounds utilizing state-of-the-art technology. Duncanville is a town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,567 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. Duncanville was founded by ranchers in 1876 and named for Captain Duncan who had been killed during the Mexican-American War. The first post office opened in 1877. In 1905, Duncanville incorporated as a city and changed its name to Duncanville after its founder, J.D. Duncan. In 1916 the city lost its charter due to lack of support from voters; however it regained it two years later when a local group of businessmen secured passage of an ordinance granting city status to any place with a population over 1,000 residents. In 1949 the city limits were expanded to include present-day parts of Garland and Arlington Heights neighborhoods adjacent to downtown; these areas became known as the " Downtown" Districts because they housed most of the businesses within walking distance of each other (the exception being those located on FM 1960 which still falls within the original City Limits). The following year saw another major expansion when Friendship Park was purchased by the city for $1 million dollars and added to their boundaries making it one block wide from south side of I-35W all around towards downtown – making it one contiguous block! This new park would be home to many popular events such as soccer games, baseball games etc., until it caught fire in 1984 after being abandoned for many years by City Officials & eventual developers who only looked out for their own interests (& not that of their citizens) ! A report conducted by TX Parks & Recreation Dept found that this park “has suffered neglect since its closure in 1984” however recent renovation has seen much improvement with new benches & picnic tables having been installed along with more than 12' high fences surrounding much needed play space now allowing childrenages up to 12years old access without fear that they will become neighborhood mainstays! As if this wasn't enough icing on topof cake...in 2013 Mayor Sly James announced plans for construction beginning Summer 2014 on what would eventually becomeknown as GatewayPark just across I-635 fromDuncanville High School – his vision sees this area becoming primarily used as an open field or recreation area with additional greenhouses/play structures built should weather conditions warrant such measures…a truly innovative idea given our current climate !!!

These new arrivals provided jobs for local residents and helped spur economic development. In 1898, Duncanville became an incorporated city with a population of 5,000 people. In recent years, Duncanville has experienced some setbacks. For example, many of its businesses have been closed or relocated to other cities since 2007 because of budget cuts caused by the recession. However, overall there is evidence that the community has bounced back over time and is experiencing strong growth due to its many advantages - including easy access to education and culture opportunities outside of Dallas/Fort Worth; low crime rates; and good infrastructure support system
