Forney is a small town in southern Texas, located on the eastern edge of the Dallas-Ft. Worth metropolitan area. The population was 3,476 at the 2010 census. Forney is part of the Fort Worth–Arlington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to settle in what is now Forney were French traders and explorers in the early 17th century. The town was founded by J.W. Forney in 1876 as an agricultural center for cattle farmers near Wichita Falls, Texas. In 1907, Forney became home to the world's largest cotton gin when it was built on land donated by Judge John Bigham Jr.. Over time, other businesses have been established such as a grocery store and two banks. Today, Forney is known for its annual Oktoberfest celebration which attracts over 100,000 people to downtown each year! Forney has one high school and three junior colleges: Baylor University (affiliated with The Methodist Church), Rice University (affiliated with Baylor), and Southern Methodist University (affiliated with SMU). It also has five community centers including one that houses a library, four parks - one featuring a zoo and three amusement venues - two of which are operated by the city government - and several libraries/library systems administered by local governments throughout west Harris County including Austin Public Library District #1; EastConnexion Independent School District; Humble ISD; Plano Independent School District; Trinity United Methodist School District #2 & #3 ; Pearland ISD; Rockwall ISD .

Forney, Texas is a small town located in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The population was 12,746 as of the 2010 census. It has been part of the state of Texas for over 180 years and was originally called Forney Township. The name change to Forney in 1868 when John Fayette Forney donated land to make way for a railroad station. In 1915, Forney became one of thirty townships in Dallas County, Texas. The township was abolished in 1924 and its land ceded to Garland County. The first post office opened at Forney on November 1, 1865. A general store and two hotels were built soon after. By 1871, there were ten businesses in Forney with a payroll of $3,500. The first school opened in 1870 and enrollment grew slowly until it doubled by 1880 due to demand from settlers and tourists attracted by the mineral wealth found near Fort Worth. With only 8 students in 1888, a new high school was built on East Boulevard which later became University Drive North. In 1902, voters approved an Act to createDallas Independent School District which included Forney within its boundaries; this district remained operational until 1974 when it merged into the current Dallas public school system (Ridgemont Consolidated School District). In 1925, farmers started irrigating their crops using water brought down from Eagle Mountain via an open-air pipeline based on claims that it could be used more efficiently thanappaing groundwater methods being developed at that time downstream in Frisco or Red Oak Creek watersheds subject to less floods but still bounded by floodplain areas A local paper reported "the water is like white wine" while others noted how easy it had been to raise money for construction costs through subscription sales throughout central Texas: "It will take some time before we realize just how good our water supply actually is." Construction began on what would become State Highway 6 north of town on what had been donated by Jethro Gibbs; today FM 644 leads directly into Arlington County proper east of downtown Dallas where Eagle Mountain Reservoir lies just beyond Interstate 20/I-20 interchange across I-20 from I-35W exits 10 and 11
Forney, Texas was founded in 1836 by John Forney and was named for him. The town was moved to its present location in 1881. It is the county seat of Hudspeth County, Texas.
