The Beattie model was very successful and soon other gunsmiths began developing similar models. By 1915, there were over 100 different types of airguns available in Freeport alone! Airguns started becoming more popular during World War II because they were useful for target shooting and bombing missions. Airgun shootings became extremely popular among American soldiers and sailors due to their accuracy and easy use. After the war ended, many people found that they had been unable to shoot effectively with traditional handguns so they started turning to airguns as their new preferred choice for hunting or target shooting. The town was founded in 1879 by John Pemberton and his wife Anna Maria Freeport. The name Freeport comes from the Spanish word "Fresa," meaning flour or meal. In 1881, a post office was established in Freeport and became known as Main Street Station. In 1912, the town incorporated as a city and growth slowed until World War II when it exploded with growth due to production of oil and gas. After the war ended in 1945, Freeport experienced an upswing with new businesses coming online such as truck stop/motel/restaurant/shopping center/exchange store etc.. The present day Freeport began to take shape when developer Ed Anderson opened his first development called Renaissance Park which included a shopping mall, office buildings and homes on what is now downtown Freeport. This redevelopment led to further growth of the city including more housing developments (Beachwood Village / North Beach Village), restaurants (Pizza Hut / KFC / Chili's), nightclubs (Smokey Joe's Bar-B-Q / Tiger Woods Golf Course) and theaters (Cinergy Dome / Majestic Theatre).

Freeport is a town in Harris County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,292 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. The first settler in Freeport was John Hargrave. He founded a ranch there in 1836 and named it Hargrave Ranch after himself and his son-in-law Hugh Hargrave. A post office called Freeport was established in 1839, and the town took its name from him. In 1865, Anthony J. Smith purchased land near Freeport and began to build a cotton plantation there. In 1870 he sold his plantation to James Fenton for $5,000 cash. According to one source, Fenton's slave quarters were "the most luxurious any man ever erected." In 1883 the towns of Sugar Land and Houston annexed Freeport; however, they did not rename the borough until 1902 when they merged into what is now known as Houston/The Woodlands/Sugar Land Area
