On December 1st, 1984 all citizens within Houston County were transferred with their rights and obligations thereto over to Galveston County following enactment by then Governor George Bush Jr., pursuant to provisions of Texan Plan amendment No. 3 (now known as Act 372). On January 1st 1987 all citizens withinGalveston County were transferred with their rights and obligations thereto over to Freeport following enactment by then Mayor Lee Radacki pursuant to provisionsof Texan Plan amendment No2 (now known as Act 368). Today there are more than 100,000 people living in Freeport - an enormous number for any small town or rural community!
